The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard
Anyone who despairs of the individual’s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan’s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools—especially for girls—that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson’s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

- Three Cups of Tea
- This is an outstanding story, well told. I think it should be required reading at the high school level. I also think every member of Congress should read it. It is not only heart warming, but really significant that one person can accomplish so much and to know that there are so many muslims that share or value of education for both boys and girls. - Wonderful Book and Education
- This book was absolutely amazing. I don't have much to write as others have already done great reviews. I want to say that part of the book's intent is to convey that education for remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan is essential in reducing/preventing extremist sects. However, I think is it also essential for the rest of the world to read this book as education on the importance More reviews
- One can make a difference
- This is an incredible story of how one man was inspired through the events surrounding a mountaineering failure to attempt and achieve what was otherwise thought impossible. Greg Mortenson has not only built and financed a school in one of the poorest and most remote parts of Pakistan, he has done it with grace and respect that is lacking from so many humanitarians More reviews
- Inspired
- Insightful and inspiring! I have spent many months living and working in different parts of the Middle East and I will go back next time with a different view - for the better. Greg Mortensen should be highly commended for his compassion, dedication and selflessness; and so should his wife, Tara. I have never been so inspired to want to help others that More reviews
