Product Description

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris's recent bestseller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case
against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and
reason, in which hell is replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry
of the double helix.

Hitchens' Unfailing Wit and Poignancy
From the moment we enter this world we're brainwashed by the idea that the fairytale land of religion, which makes the Wizard of Oz seem coldly realistic, is factual and irrefuable. Hitchens excells at shattering this illusion.   More reviews
Mr. Hitchens Is Not That Great
Christopher Hitchens is a gifted writer with a great mind, a lot of real world experience, a ribald sense of humor and a devastating pen. I would not want to be the target of one of his polemics. The problem is that CH is great at lobbing opinion bombs at his targets from a distance, but he either knows nothing about the religions he attacks beyond the most superficial of details. CH often…   More reviews
God Bless Us, Every One
First, I'm a regular church goer. Every week. So I obviously don't agree that religion poisons everything.
Second, I enjoyed the book. Hitchens breezy, tabloidish, over-the-top, cartoonish yet intellectual style of writing is easy to read and moves the book right along, one shocking or outlandish anecdote after another. I would recommend this book to my religious cohorts who can…   More reviews
Religion debunked
I picked up this book at an airport as I had nothing to read for a long flight and was very pleasantly surprised.
The style is clear, concise and witty and the argumentation is unimpeachable.
No theological or fuzzy philosophical arguments, but simple observation and enumerations of verifiable facts showing that :
1- The three great monotheistic religions based on the…   More reviews
A very poor book
A very poor book. For any person religious or not, but with some common sense, the subject of God existence is a very delicate one, and that of religion a very complex one. Not for Christopher Hitchens. His book is nothing but a long list of ills attributed to religions, mainly Christian and Muslim ones. On the other hand, the abominable crimes…   More reviews
