- It works!
- I liked the concept so bought the book. I have tried a few recipes out of this book, all came out well. The rubs in particular are good general purpose rubs and work on just about any kind of meat. Once you get the idea, you can probably develop some of your own cheats - I have. Recommended.

- Easy! Easy! Easy! Good! Good! Good!
- I first heard about Cheater BBQ while listening to NPR's "The Splendid Table." It sounded too good to be true, but I ran back into town to get a 6-pound Boston butt roast. I took out our slow cooker, rubbed the roast with basic Cheater rub, poured 1/2 cup of Colgin's Liquid Smoke and set the cooker on high for 6 hours. OMG... what great pulled pork on rolls with little bbq sauce. I ordered the book a couple of weeks ago, then last weekend we tried bbq ribs... equally as good.

- just what america needs!
- Quinn and Merrell have nailed the needs of American cooks. Their recipes marry traditional gourmet delicacies with creativity, ease, innovation and economy. I love this book and the simplicity of these meals. Why didn't I think of this?
This pair has figured out how to teach folks to put inexpensive meat on the table yet have guests marveling about the meal. Now that's a tasty gift. - 2008-11-28, 1 of 1 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Great for condo living
- We love this book. We live in a San Francisco high-rise condo. Instead of a big backyard, we have a narrow 18 square foot patio that, frankly, we didn't want to clutter up with a grill. One day, I pulled out a crock pot my mother gave me years ago. I'd never used until I saw these authors on an afternoon TV show. We bought the book and have been experimenting with it ever since. We've had several people over to watch college football (Mizzou-RAH!) and have had chicken wings and thighs, beef brisket and more. Who knew all you needed was a crock pot and some liquid smoke?!?!? We got friends interested and are going to get them each a book for Christmas. The book is easy. We especially like it because it's not fancy -- it includes ingredients we can get at Safeway!
