Japanese limited edition pressing includes 3 bonus tracks packaged in a miniature LP sleeve. By the time Santana arrived on the San Francisco scene in 1968, the Grateful Dead's freeform antics were already legendary. But Santana was a jam band of another order, fueled by Latin rhythms, blues, bebop, and straight-ahead rock. Having set the audience at the 1969 Woodstock festival on its collective ear, the band did the same for the nation with its self-titled debut. Songs such as 'Evil Ways', 'Jingo' and 'Soul Sacrifice' contain extraordinary ensemble playing, powered by percolating congas and timbales and topped by the grippingly human cry of Carlos Santana's guitar. - A spellbinding, towering achievement
- I'd heard one or two tracks on the radio, eg "Evil Ways" on BBC Radio One and "Soul Sacrifice" on a French radio station (as music to use in the run-up to the news on the hour - well at least the French played a bit of Soul Sac; we Brits never did at all at the time!!). So I already knew that I was on to something very, very special. I first More reviews

- Absolutely a fantastic album (CD). I especially appreciated the three included live Woodstock tracks. Finally I can enjoy the WOODSTOCK live very bass heavy "SOUL SACRIFICE" on a proper stereo instead of on my computer via YouTube. More reviews

- Doesn't seem to compare with the 33 rpm vinyl record version!
"Soul Sacrifice" doesn't sound as exciting! More reviews
- A classic!
- Waiting - waiting to take off, goes nowhere.
Evil Woman - a classic, what Santana is known for.
Shades of Time - not a bad song, but not a favorite.
Savor - too much cowbells and organs, sounds like Deep Purple. Were they
using the same organs/keyboards?
Jingo - a classic.
Persuasion - a classic, one of my top 5 Santana More reviews
- Just the beginning of the genius that is Santana
- I'm 51 years old and I grew up on Santana. I've listened to this band on 8 tracks, cassettes, reel to reel, and vinyl. I can't imagine what rock and roll or any part of popular music would be without Santana as a part of our musical spectrum. I agree, Abraxas is incredible, and "Everybody's Everything" from III is fantastic. But this disc is where is started. These rhythms lay More reviews
