- Great while it worked
- I agree with other reviewers that this little steamvac does NOT in fact produce steam. Nor does it heat the water. What it does is inject water - of whatever temperature you put into the reservoir - into the carpet or upholstery and then vacuums it up, along with whatever spill or mess you're trying to clean, and it does that very well. I thought it was a useful spot cleaner - it was a lifesaver with two puppies - that worked great for a year or so, but then the water injector stopped working. I have continued to use the vacuum for small messes - more as a wet-vac - by using a spray bottle to saturate the area to be cleaned with hot water/carpet cleaner. But the appliance still broke way too soon. In fairness to Hoover, perhaps if I'd been proactive and contacted them about it at the time it broke they would have repaired or replaced the unit, but I didn't. Now it's been about five years and the vacuum still works great. I was looking on Amazon today considering buying a new one but due to $60+ cost I will just continue to use my half-working one and spray bottle.

- Perfect for spots and a great value
- I've had this cleaner for over four months now and I still love it. I specifically needed the cleaner for pet stains left behind by my cocker spaniel. I live in a condo and don't have room to store an upright steam cleaner. The Steamvac Jr is easy to store and very easy to use. Don't let the low price fool you - it is a very effective machine and has handled any stain I've tried it on, even the dried-in old stains that prompted the purchase.
I used the Amazon reviews to research carpet cleaners before I purchased this cleaner. I was initially looking at the Bissel mean green line, but decided against it after reading many negative reviews. I did notice that many people complained about the noise level of the Hoover, but I have not had much issue with it. While it's not a real quiet machine, it is not louder than any other vacuum I've used. It may just seem louder because your head is closer to the motor than with an upright machine.
Overall, this cleaner was an ideal solution to my issue - many pet stains, limited storage, and small budget. - 2006-05-17, 18 of 18 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- As bad as any american appliance.
- Steam release trigger is VERY inconvinient - hard to push, especially when your hands are wet. Steam pressure is very low. VERY loud.

- Another great Hoover product
- My husband bought this for me, because after 8 years of dependability he broke the upholostry attachment on my Hoover carpet machine. I tried to get him to buy me a brand new carpet machine by using his guilt against him, but he used the fact that I could still shampoo my carpet just fine to get out of it. He ended up ordering this machine for me and I was a little disappointed but after I used it the first time I was happy. I did all the upholostry on my couch and chase lounger and it worked great, yes, even better than the one on my old carpet machine. My furniture looks great and smells fresh again. Which is amazing because I'm military and out of the three years that I've owned my furniture it's been in storage for two of those years which had left it smelling like mildew. The machine itself is a little loud but not any louder than the carpet machine or a vacum so I didn't mind. All and all I love my new Steamvac Jr. and my husband is forgiven.

- SteamVac Jr. great cleaner, no steam
- This was a great purchase, and I am satisfied. I have a dog, and a 3-year-old child, and another baby on the way, so I'm trying to keep the carpet extra tidy for the new baby. I can't afford to call the pro's every time there is a mess, and this Steamvac has taken care of those spills and dog messes. I suggest buying a more powerful detergent than the one it comes with, especailly for set it stains and animal messes, and don't expect this thing to actually steam the carpet, it runs off of hot water, but it does do the job.
