- This is a great table saw fence.
- I wound up purchasing this fence for my 10" Craftsman Contractor saw because the stock Align-a-Rip fence was constantly racking and binding. This fence has reformed this saw. I've now had the HTC fence for two years and love it. It is smooth, hassle free and always produces perfectly straight rips I can count on. I do remember having to drill one hole because the one hole wasn't lined up right, but that was nothing to do and I was told that there may be the need of slight modifications.
I actually sent an email to Chris Schwartz at Popular Woodworking inquiring about what he thought about this fence and after helpful information, I'm glad I bought it from Amazon. Shipped fast and with care, everything was there and it went on easily. If you are in the market for a good table saw fence with micro adjustment that really works, you will not be disappointed. This heavy fence holds up great after the use I put it through so far. I recommend adding an MDF top under the fence on the right side of the blade so you can rip those larger plywood sheets and make supported crosscuts. I've been so pleased with this fence, its made my saw safer and much more accurate. - 2008-01-02, 1 of 1 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- More fiddling to get things set up but nicer fence in the end
- I mounted this fence and HTC rails to my old Craftsman table saw and after adjusting and tweaking had a wonderfully accurate and precise fence that is easier to set to my exact cut width than my commercial Biesemeyer. That said, I agree with the other reviewer who noted how much work it took with the less than ideal instructions and necessary calls to HTC technical support (who were great, BTW). I got the first generation of this fence and had trouble with one of the fence faces being warped enough that the adjustment clips couldn't hold it straight. One phone call to HTC got me the "new and improved" fence face that was straight. Once set parallel to the blade my fence remained true with heavy use. I did upgrade later to a Unisaw with a commercial Biesemeyer, and in day-to-day use would like to have used my HTC fence over the Biese because of the fine-adjust system. Unfortunately, the HTC-800 is for the smaller contractor/homeshop fence sized rails and won't work on the commercial sized rails (that's what the HTC-900 will do). My experience suggested more pain (with installation and set-up) but more gain (with easy of use and repeatability in set-up compared to Biesemeyer "tap tap tap"). A final note: the fence face is not as high as the Biesemeyer. In use alone this posed no problems but I found it easier to make jigs for the taller Biese than the shorter HTC. This might just be me.
