Product Description

Get into Sony MiniDisc the fast and affordable way. Here's an easy way to find out for yourself how MiniDisc is revolutionizing how you record, mix, and listen to your music. Take home this Sony MD Recorder and some blank MiniDiscs, connect it to your current system and you're ready to record.24-Bit Analog-to-Digital Converter establishes high precision in the record mode, with far wider dynamic range than conventional 16-bit circuitry. At the heart of MiniDisc audio technology is Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding, or ATRAC. It's the process that enables Sony to put 80 minutes of digital stereo sound on a minuscule 2, 5-inch disc! Sony's ATRAC DSP Type "R" uses an added stage that checks the accuracy of bit allocation. Bits are then re-allocated to refine the coding. Together with superior processing accuracy, the bit-reallocation yields music that's more faithful to the original. You'll hear smoother, better-articulated, more clearly delineated sound. Wide Bit Stream technology maintains 20-bit precision through the recording process, for clearer reproduction of delicate, low-level music. Sony invents the time machine: Now suppose you're listening to the radio and a hot new song comes on. With Advanced Time Shift Recording, you can hit the Record button up to six seconds late - and still capture every note! The Recorder conveniently stores the last six seconds of music in the buffer. Turn Jog Dial, this convenient control for split-second track access and also for text entry. Hybrid design places the digital filter and D/A converter on a single integrated circuit for shorter signal paths, reduced interference. The result is remarkably smooth, open sound - even during delicate quiet passages. Off-Center Insulator Feet protect the recorder from shelf-borne vibration. Insulator feet reduce the harmful effects of resonance on analog circuitry and the laser servo. Off-center screw holes help to diffuse modes of vibration.

Sony's MDS-JE440 professional minidisc recorder is designed for basic recording and playback applications including as live sound, DJ recording, radio production, and A/V installation. Features include ATRAC/ATRAC 3 type "R" digital signal processing, 24-bit analog to digital converters, and wide bitstream technology, which maintains 20-bit precision through the recording process.

Connections include digital and analog audio inputs and outputs, and the unit permits text editing of artist and song data on a per-song basis. The MDS-JE440 model also offers an El Core power transformer that vastly reduces radiated hum, a digital sample-rate converter that allows easy digital transfer from other digital audio sources like as DAT. This option provides the ability to transfer CD-Text titles to MD during recording from CDs that contain CD-Text and are being played back on a CD player that recognizes it.

Other features include a long-play mode of up to five hours, 20 minutes of stereo on an "80-minute" minidisc, time-machine recording (which captures up to six seconds of audio into a convenient buffer memory prior to your pressing the record button), and digital record level adjustment (from menu or remote). Minidisc editing commands include track combine, divide, move, erase, A-B erase, undo, and rehearse, and Smart Space recording replaces blank space created by interruption. CD synchro recording allows synchronized record and playback using the supplied wireless remote with a compatible Sony CD player.

What's in the Box
MD recorder/player, a Remote Commander remote control, two stereo analog (left/right) RCA interconnects, a Toslink optical digital-audio interconnect, and a user's manual.

The best choice for portable, high quality music
This player is an awesome addition to your home system. Trust me, I've been using MiniDiscs since 1997, and i found out that the MiniDisc is the best choice if you want to carry your favorite tunes, with CD quality sound (you'll hardly get that with MP3's!!!). This player (JE440) also incorporates the LP2 and LP4 compression system,…   More reviews
Great product - highly recommended!
easy to use and learn. I would advise the purchase of an optical cable - with this connection, there is no need for manual level adjustments, so there are no are no oversaturated or low-level recordings. A few of the functions are a little confusing to start with, but the undo function makes it simple to avoid any lasting problem. A very nice pruduct at a reasonable price - I hope these…   More reviews
A Disappearing BEST
Minidisc recorders are one of the greatest inventions ever created. It's SO unfortunate that CD Burners have caused this products popularity to dwindle. You can do so much more with a minidisc than with a cd burner. Erase songs now or 10 years from now, rearrange tracks, give specific track numbers to certain songs, there's virtually no limit to what you can do. NONE…   More reviews
