- I had high hopes for this American tool, but the body is not flat and teeters on flat surfaces
- I couldn't find a retailer that carried Starrett tools so I thought this square would suffice. I bought one from the local Woodcraft but when I got it
home I found that the body wouldn't sit flat on a granite surface plate. It teetered corner to corner. This made it useless for squaring my jointer.
I returned it and found that the other ones they had in stock did the same.
The critical design flaw of this square is that the body (compared to the blade) is comprised of 3 pieces of Aluminum that are not planar.
I bought a Starrett 20-6 6" square and have had no problems with it. - 2006-11-08, 7 of 13 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Worth the expense
- I bought this thinking it was an extravagance, but it's worth every penny. It stands up for squaring table saw blades and band saw blades, it has the lip that keeps it square against boards, the corner is relieved so that a rough edge on the wood won't throw it off, and it's built like a pry bar - you'd need a sledge to get it out of square. I use it daily and don't know how I got by before.
BTW, the guy who said that the box was nice was right - it's cardboard but has a form-fitting high-density foam insert that the square rests in. The whole thing has "serious equipment" written all over it. - 2006-06-22, 1 of 1 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Must buy
- If you have a nice shop and want your tools to be as accurate as they can be then you must have this square. I am always worried that my equipment is inaccurate but now I know they are, and I can fix them all now and be certain that they are tuned to the precission that I expect. Only after haveing this square did I find out how much I needed it.

- Pricey, but worth it if you want precision
- Look at where the red part meets the gold, there's a lip there. This lip lets you rest the red part over the edge of a board and it won't pivot down or tip over; it's a great feature. Because this tool is so accurate; I mainly bought it for aligning tools, which it has done flawlessly. Whenever I need a precision cut, this is the tool I reach for. If you can get over the price, you'll love it. It's dead on square too, inside AND out. Avoid the squares that have wood handles as changes in humidy change the squareness! Incra is hard to beat when it comes to precision instruments, and once again they've done a fine job.
