Minor issues make it 2 star vs 3 star: I received the grinder and decided to use it before my trip to test it. To test, I ground 20 grams of coffee in my burr grinder at a medium setting and 20 grams of the same coffee in the Bodum. I then screened the two grinds and visually examined the results. Best of the Small Whirlys: This is a very nice and efficient small whirling blade grinder. I have had one for several years and like it much better than the other popular models (Krups etc.) that I've owned previously. It is an outstanding value.

Cracked lid out of the box: Unfortunately I didn't open the box after having this grinder for a year. Half of the lid was shattered in the box, which makes the on/off switch not function. Great - I was eagerly awaiting my morning coffee and now not only did I lose my investment in this grinder but I have to go buy coffee.

Not worth the trouble.: The Bodum C-Mill does grind beans consistently, in the sense that you'll get the exact same mix of coarse and finely ground beans regardless of how long you grind the beans, how much you shake the grinder, or how many beans you fill it with. After you're finished grinding, you'll be happy to find plenty of coffee lavishly… More reviews

Maybe they got a bad batch.....??: I was gifted this item & LOVE it! It outperforms the $45 Melitta one that just died.
If the coffee isn't ground fine enough or if it's inconsistant within the same batch, perhaps you have overfilled it. I use it daily to grind coffee for a 12 cup maker (and we like ours STRONG!!) & it handles that just fine.
