- Works Great In The Cooler Months
- Norpro Butter Keeper is such a handy little tabletop gadget that I bought two. My husband is a slob with the butter knife and gets toast crumbs and anything else he has used his knife on in the butter so now he can have his own butter to be messy with.
My only problem is that I live in So Cal where our summertime temps challenge the best air conditioning systems and getting the house cooled below 80 is near impossible some days, so I can't fault the product. As a result I can't use this during our hot weather months because the butter just falls out into the water when you lift the lid. I do however look forward to being able to use it later on in the year.
Another plus for the Norpro Butter Keeper is that its great for other firm spreads like cream cheese too. - 2008-08-13, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:

I've found all the above claims to be true. I was very skeptical that it could hold butter upside down and do it well. I've had this butter keeper for well over a year, and we go through a lot of butter. Spreading butter on toast and other breads had always been an unpleasurable task since keeping butter outside of the refrigerator tended to get messy or wasteful once the butter got rancid, and spreading cold butter is just yukky. Now, it's always a pleasure. It holds a full stick of butter and that butter will keep until we use it up. I then pop the butter keeper in the dishwasher before changing to a new stick. I let the new stick soften somewhat before packing it into the butter keeper, fill the water container with cold water, and that's it. I keep a very small container of cold water in the refrigerator to replenish the water in the butter keeper about every 2-3 days. I have gone longer than 3 days without replenishing the water in the butter keeper and although the butter never got rancid, I could tell it was not as fresh as changing the water sooner. If the butter is not packed well into the container or the water is not cold, some pieces of butter may fall into the water; but the butter retrieved from the water is still fresh and spreadable. One of my sons, a picky engineer, was visiting recently and was so impressed with using it that he "exclaimed" he wanted one, which makes one less problem in choosing his birthday gifts next month. - 2008-08-10, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Dissapointed
- I am dissapointed with the Norpro. The butter would constantly fall out of its bowl and into the water bowl after being exposed to room temperature for only 15 minutes. I do live in a warm climate(Alabama) but we have the air conditoner running!I now use the Norpro as a butter dish and place it out side the refrigerator about 30 minutes before using the butter.

- I love my butter keeper
- I bought this butter keeper this (hot)summer because keeping the butter in the fridge made it too hard to use on toast, and keeping it on the counter ended up in a puddle of melted butter. Keeping butter cooled in water keeps it spreadable all the time. The container can get a little grotty, especially with less careful kids using it, but no more than a butter dish would get. I highly recommend this and the price is right!

- Recommended - Keeps butter cool & softened!
- I bought this with the 4 for 3 promotion. What a great find! I remember my Mom having one years ago, but I never thought about buying one since I would just soften what I wanted to use in the microwave. Now softened butter is readily available. The butter cup holds 1/2 cup of softened butter. I usually put in about a 1/4 cup which works well for the two of us since we don't eat a lot of butter. I fill it all the way when I know I will need softened butter to make a compound butter such as garlic basil butter (great on grilled corn on the cob). Then I take half of it out and put it into another bowl to mix with the other ingredients.
This is a plain but nice glazed stoneware set that looks good on the counter or the table. Everyone that sees it loves it, and I have recommended this item to friends who still insist on using a butter dish! - 2008-07-27, 1 of 1 people found this review helpful, Rated:
