frustrating but effective
We received this as a gift a couple years ago. I am reluctantly a "coffee snob" because of years working coffee retail, was glad to have a burr grinder.
However, this grinder is almost more frustration than it is worth. Because we purchase darker roasts, the beans have the oil on the surface. Because we use a gold cone for our daily coffee, we grind relatively fine. This combination means that we have to clean out not only the bottom part of the hopper but also the innards of the mechanism with a nut pick every couple weeks. The beans and the finer grind collect up quite quickly and clog up both where the beans go down into the burr, and also where the grinds pour out. Cleaning creates a giant mess. The alternative is that the beans will not go down to the burr to grind and we have to continually smack the top of the hopper to get the beans to go down.
So imagine, every time you want coffee, not only is there the noise of the machine, which I could deal with because I have never heard a quiet grinder, but the beans are not going through the machine so we are also running over to smack on the top of the hopper. It makes for an altogether violent coffee grinding experience. My husband is practically apoplectic everytime the thing starts to choke up again.
I can't recommend this grinder, esp. if you like darker coffee shop roasts (or even sumatra) and often grind for cone or use other finer grinds.

Solid Performer If New And A Real Steal When Reconditioned
The Cuisinart DBM-8 is a very attractive stainless and black automatic coffee mill at a decent price ($50); however it's an absolute steal if you can buy one of the reconditioned units at $16.99. Factory Reconditioned Cuisinart DBM-8FR Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill
This mill is built around a burr grinding mechanism, which produces uniform sized coffee grounds - far superior to the results from the common blade coffee grinders that dominate the under $30 price range. I have even had good results using this mill to grind up flax seed into meal and rice grains into flour (although the end product is not quite as fine as commercial flour).
The grind selector offers 18 levels ranging from fine to coarse; however, my primary complaint is that the very finest level is not fine enough for making Turkish coffee, and only borderline for espresso. The mill is designed so that the upper burr grind plate can be removed, so in theory you could install a thin gasket behind it to reduce the distance between the two plates and produce an ultra-fine result; however, I was unable to remove the screws holding the upper plate in place so I gave up on the idea.
This Cuisinart is larger than most inexpensive coffee mills - it occupies about a 5"x7" footprint, and is 10" high; but that's mainly because of its large capacity. It features a large clear acrylic bean hopper that holds a ½ pound or more of whole beans and seals fairly tightly, so it doesn't require frequent refilling. There is a slide control calibrated in cups (4 to 18) which allows you to set the length of time that the grinder runs, and the clear acrylic grounds container is big enough to handle whatever volume you chose to grind.
I have had my Cuisinart DBM-8 for almost two years and it has performed faithfully. I mainly use it now for grinding meal and flours since I purchased a semi-automatic espresso machine last year that has its own built in grinder.

Six months? How sucky.
We have used this grinder for six months and it suddenly stopped working. Since the original packaging contained no instructions on how to clean it, we have been unable to remove any debris from the burrs or inner chambers of the machine. I called Cuisinart to have it replaced or fixed, and they REFUSE to honor the warranty. An 18 month warranty!!! BUYER BEWARE. You are throwing your money away if you buy this machine. It will die on you after six months and you will have to shell out the money for a whole new one.

Nice design and good price; Very loud
Grinder is a good value for the money. Multiple settings for grind size are convenient and easy to use. Design is stylish and looks great on my counter.
Grind size is usually consistent and even. That's what mattered most to me in buying this grinder.
Cons:
Grind quantity comes out typically 1.5 to 2 times the amount specified. Makes for a lot of wasted grinds.
Hopper is rather flimsy and top does not seal well. I wish there were some sort of rubber gasket or O-ring around hopper lid to keep beans fresher.
Machine is extremely loud. So loud, in fact, that one almost does not need any caffeine in the morning, rather the loud racket will rattle your nerves awake.
