Nice grill for a small family..better than a hibachi
We missed the flavor of charcoal grilling after using a gas grill for several years then discovered the Lodge Logic Sportsman's Charcoal grill. Cooks burgers, steaks, hotdogs, etc. Even though it is preseasoned, a light coating of oil is necessary and recommended by the manufacturer. I only wish this grill came with a removable lid for extended cooking or smoking. This grill is well made and should last a very long time.

Stays hot, uses less charcoal, great product.
This is a great product! We purchased this grill approximately 6 weeks ago and have used it at least twice a week since then. We have owned gas and charcoal grills, both small and large, and this is the best grill I have ever used.
Advantages:
-cast iron retains the heat longer than other charcoal grills
-uses less charcoal than full-size charcoal grills (especially for small meals)
-provides great sear on food (allow the grill surface to heat up for about 5 minutes before cooking).
-great charcoal flavor
-provides even cooking (as long as the charcoal is spread evenly)
-perfect size for smaller meals (2-6 people) although can be used for larger groups by adding charcoal during grilling (I have only used coal-based charcoal, not the longer burning wood charcoal which may prolong cooking time without additional charcoal)
-could be used as a table-top "Korean-style BBQ" grill (ensure the table can withstand the heat) for 2-6 people (wood charcoal would be great for this).
-works great inside a full-size circular charcoal grill (I take out the grill rack of our full-size charcoal grill and place this grill on the rack that normally holds the charcoal. Thus the grill surface is perfectly at waist level and I can still put on the cover of the full size grill and "bake" or smoke as needed. I also did not install the bottom plate of this grill so the ashes fall through and are captured by my full-size grill which has a handy ash-removal pan.)
Disadvantages:
-may take a long time to cook a lot of food
-may be difficult to use if you don't put it on top of something (non-flammable) because it's short.

Amazing Grill
I bought this grill to use just at home. I recently had a get away weekend with some friends, and brought the grill along. I cooked an entire meal for 4, in separate courses, regulating the heat with the door and damper as needed for the food I was making. The grill was easy to transport, and is very easy to clean. The door makes ash clean out a breeze. The retaining quality of the cast iron means you have to use less charcoal, so less $ and less ash cleanout.
I purchased a cast iron trivet also from Lodge, and with $2.50 worth of hardware from the hardware store I added a trivet as a warming tray above the grill.
The cast iron cooking grates are awesome and I have been able to sear and grill some great steaks, as well as grill something delicate like bri cheese with toasted baguette.
I also purchased the grill cover which I find to be very high quality, and easy to use. It even slides right over my add on trivet. I don't have a place to store the grill inside so the cover is important to me, and it has done a great job.
