- BUYER BEWARE
- It is one of the worst programs ever. First it will occupy your entire computer's memory and make your computer very slow and most of the programs will stop working, I am talking about legitimate programs, like Microsoft, adobe, etc, and other well known companies.
You don't need to download a virus; it is a virus by itself. You can never uninstall this product. After uninstalling it over and over it will keep on reappearing and running in the back ground doing the same dirty things as if it was never uninstalled.
One more thing, your email client will never work in the presences of this software. The bottom line, I have to delete and format my hard drive and install every thing again, from scratch, which took me about 2 days.
I already bought another internet security product but will never touch this company's products again...what a loss. - 2005-09-08, 3 of 3 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- I'm very pleased with the latest version!
- I have used McAfee for 3 years. I had problems with the 2004 version of the McAfee Internet Suite & expected problems with the 2005. I had a hard time getting the 2004 version to install right. It also wouldn't let me compose & send emails from one of my email addresses. I'm very happy to say that when I installed this virus protection to my computer, everything works great. It was easy to install & I haven't had the first problem with it. I do not regret buying this program at all & will stick to having McAfee as my virus protector.

- Awful - can't pay me to get another McAfee product
- First, the program took so much room in the memory. Then, in order to make things work, I had to disable components. Then, finally being willing to just throw away the investment and buy something else, it won't uninstall! Spent 4 hours on the only free support - internet chat - after rebooting 6 times and having to restart support chat with someone else each time, I was "bumped up" to level 2 support, which I was told would be via e-mail... That was 2 weeks ago, and no word...
I used the tutorial pages myself 4 times also, but still, it WON'T UNINSTALL!!! iT'S A VIRUS IN ITSELF. Only way to get rid of it is to reinstall the OS (I hope?). - 2005-08-17, 6 of 8 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Complete Waste of Money
- Mcafee Internet Security did nothing to protect my computer. Even with the Mcafee firewall, someone was still able to hack into my computer. The virus scan did not find any of the viruses that the free Trend Micro virus scan did. The only thing that Mcafee Internet Security did was make my computer instable. After I installed this product, I noticed that my system would crash many times and that I would have Internet connectivity issues. Furthermore, this product says that it protects against spyware. Well, it doesn't. Lavasoft discovered over 150 spyware files that a McAfee scan couldn't. I do not recommend this product because I think that it is very ineffective. It won't protect your computer; instead, it will only make your system instable.

- Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad software
- I have had nothing but problems ever since I installed the Security Suite. I'm not so much upset about spending the money rather ALL the TIME I've put in trying to resolve these errors. I'm a computer programmer, and although I don't deal that much with hardware, I would like to think I can take care of my own computer.
Currently, McAfee won't start, hence, I can't check for updates or run a scan on my computer. I also can't uninstall McAfee because, ahem... it won't start. mghtml.exe has generated errors is the message I keep getting.
I decided to try to go online for support. The funny thing is that Internet Explorer is also giving me a problem (if it's a virus, I would like to scan for it and remove it, you know?). IE crashed about 200 times before I switched back to Netscape 6.2. I went to the online help for McAfee, hoping to chat with someone, however after I chose my country of origin, it went right back to the screen where I should select my country of origin again. The site is not compatible with Netscape, but that's the only thing I can run!
So I tried to call McAfee for help. The 800 number that I found (it was pretty difficult to find that even) was $3.00 per minute. There is NO WAY that I was going to spend even more money on this terrible, horrible piece of software. I found another phone number on the privacy agreement and called that. The number was for their corporate offices and the only option I had was to enter an employee's extension. I randomly picked a number and left a detailed message with my problem and asked for help. I never heard anything back.
I am completely fed up with this product. My computer is several years old and although it probably has a few more years in it (if I would break down and reinstall everything - system restore isn't an option on Windows 2000), I don't have the energy to fight anymore. I am always downloading updates (well I was when I could - when it goes to check for updates, it opens IE and remember, that doesn't work) and I run a weekly scan. Aside from all the recent problems, I don't believe it's ever done a good job to begin with. Several months back I started getting an error with the blue screen of death saying "beginning dump of physical memory." I don't know for sure, but if that was caused by a virus on my machine, why didn't McAfee catch it in the first place? It's always running on my machine.
We've switched to an iMac. It should be here tonight. I'm going to erase everything off this computer and donate it to someone else who can start again from scratch WITHOUT using McAfee hopefully. - 2005-07-13, 4 of 7 people found this review helpful, Rated:
