- Never better
- I have been an avid woodworker for many years. This is without a doubt the best and easiest to use router I have ever owned. I have always used Porter Cable or some other big name brand. But this guy puts them all to shame. It's very well machined, the motor and base plate fit together tighter than others and they still move very freely. The whole router just feels better made. You can see & feel the quality of this router the minute you lift it out of the storage case. Which by the way is the nicest case I have ever seen. I usually toss the cases I get but this one is so well thought out I kept it to store all the extras that came with the router and other things I like to keep close for routing.

- Nice First Router
- First off, this is the first router I've ever owned. I used the fixed base to cut finger joints for a sliding shelf I was building and it did an excellent job. Only issue so far with it is that some of the parts seem to have a little too much grease. Otherwise, very happy with purchase.

- Can't be beat for the price
- I know there are many Bosch salesman working this particular item, but I own both, and while the Bosch has the name and is a slightly better router if you are just starting out you CAN... NOT buy a better router for the price.

- Yep, spend more, get the Bosch
- This is a good router. But the Bosch 1617 is better. Some of the fit and finish is cheap, and it is made in China and it shows. Overall, solid Hitachi design, but the Bosch is a simply better design. You won't go wrong with this, but there is better. There seems to be a lot of grease in the collet that is not needed.
Ergonomics are good. The mechanics are a little cumbersome. You can do better. - 2007-06-19, 4 of 11 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Great Router...
- I'll have to concur with the other reviewers here in that this is a great router. My only gripe is the fact that you can't find an Edge Guide for this thing. I have a few jigs that I've made for use with a router, but the edge guide would be a nice item to compliment this machine and it seems to be non-existent. Hitachi could at least make a suggestion as to another manufacturers edge guide that might work. Otherwise, I guess I'll be making my own.
