- Nice bowls, cheap packaging
- I purchased these as a gift for a friend. After seeing a similar set of noodle bowls on a pricey website with high shipping, I checked Amazon to see if I could find something similar, but more affordable.
The bowls arrived unbroken, but the packaging is tattered, scuffed, and generally in poor condition.
In addition, the packaging is bright yellow, cheap cardboard, with a tacky label. Hard to explain, but it looks like it was pulled from a clearance rack at a very cheap discount store.
The bowls themselves are nice - matte black stoneware, nicely weighted, simple and pretty. If you are purchasing for home use, this is all that really matters, right?
If you are purchasing as a gift, however, realize that the presentation is anything but classy! I now plan to repackage them in a gift basket with a cookbook and a few kitchen gadgets in order to make them presentable. So much for saving money! - 2008-12-02, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- good stuff
- Saw something similar at our local art museum shop and we were intrigued. We eat ramen fairly often (we were cheap mac & cheese kids in our salad days, so we didn't burn out!). This is a convenient size, and adds just a little styleto the meal. Not too light, sturdy enough, though we haven't dropped one yet.

- Poor packing center, maybe?
- I received my set of bowls today, and I was extremely fortunate that they arrived alright. As many others have said, they were very badly packed. The manufacturer's box (which had the sets securely bubble wrapped, thankfully) was kicking around in a huge shipping box, filled with two partially deflated air pillow-packs. As my UPS delivery person handed it to me the shipping box tilted, and I heard the box inside thud gently against one end of the larger container, and thought "oh no!" UPS here is wonderful, and I think most of the reason it arrived in good condition is because it wasn't shipped by mail. Mine came from Las Vegas - perhaps the Las Vegas packing department is the problem?
The bowls themselves are as pretty as they are in the pictures. They do, indeed, conduct heat very well - they're not suitable for carrying around as you eat, but for table use they're great. The chopsticks are lightweight and probably won't last forever, but I like them just fine. They certainly made our ramen and nori luch look fancy today. - 2008-03-07, 2 of 2 people found this review helpful, Rated:
