Two young sisters recovering from an unnamed trauma must face a mysterious past in this excellent South Korean shocker. A worldwide hit upon its release and based on an old Korean fairy tale; two sisters (wonderfully played by Su-jeong Lim and Geun-yeong Mun) come to live with their cold and distant father and turn-on-a-dime stepmother in a house where nothing is as it seems. A wonderfully haunting score, starkly beautiful imagery, and a labyrinthine plot that twists and turns at every dark corner all set the stage for a riveting and often terrifying guessing game of a movie. Equal parts drama, mystery, and ghost story, A Tale of Two Sisters is a richly complex and challenging cinematic treat that may very well demand repeat viewings. — Matt Wold

- Tale of two sisters review
- Great movie. The ending has an interesting and believable twist which offers something different than what you would get with an American film. Also, it shows some interesting insight as to how mental illness is dealt with and viewed in other cultures. Wonderful Psychological thriller. More reviews
- A thriller that provides plenty of chills and food for thought
- A Tale of Two Sisters is very confusing upon the first viewing, especially if you know nothing about it. Once the twists are revealed it starts making more sense, but I have to admit that a certain poster (see below) on IMDB.com really made me appreciate this work of art. Even though this is not really a horror film, there were a few freaky More reviews
- 4 ½+ Stars: Beautiful, Alluringly Creepy and Mind-Bending! Fairy Tales Have Never Been this Grimm...
- Based on a Korean folktale, writer/director Kim Jee-Won (The same guy who gave us the fantastic "A Bittersweet Life" ) has crafted an intelligent, absorbing piece of psychological terror that may stay with you for a long time. "A TALE OF TWO SISTERS" is the type of film that may sometimes confuse the viewer, but that confusion is part of its compelling and immersive More reviews
- Amazing work of art
- A tale of two sisters is an amazing film. It moves along at a pace that is quick enough to keep your attention but not to fast as to seem rushed. The style of the film keeps you wondering exactly what is going on and engages you enough so that upon finishing the film you immediately want to watch it again to see everything that you missed the first More reviews
- Mentally Stimulating
- Usually I am pretty good at figure out most movies before they end.Quite a few times in the first 30 minutes.
Especially American movies with notable exceptions and even foreign films.
But this one, had me seriously wondering if I had missed something even though i paid very close attention.
It was gripping and kept throwing curveballs. More reviews
