I win, Starbucks and Tully lose :)
I've read all the reviews and it would appear that there are a few people who have been victims of poor quality control. That's too bad because this is a great little device.
I'm one of those people who hates to read manuals and just wants to get on with the show. I'm a techie both at work and at home. If you're experienced and generally have no problems with computers and hi-fi equipment, then you should have no problems with this. I can see why the seller stated that it has a slight learning curve because the manual isn't the best or the most straightforward.
I rated 4/5 stars because for it to be perfect, I would have to have the ability to steam milk at the same time as it was brewing my espresso. This is not to say that I don't love the machine, too, though. I bought the machine to replace my routine of going to Tully's in the AM and sometimes in the PM. I'm saving at least $7 in drinks plus the gas required to get it.
Observations:
* it's loud, but if you've ever visited a Tully's or Starbucks, then you'll be used to the sounds an espresso machine makes
* it is indeed made predominantly out of plastic, but what isn't these days? for the price, I was expecting to get mostly plastic
* don't touch the chrome on the steamer! it gets very hot!

Incredible Value
My husband has had the Espressione Cafe Dolce Aroma now for over 6 months. We've used it at home, in the office and for parties. It has made hundreds upon hundreds of cups of wonderful espresso coffee beverages. Easy to easy, easy to clean and the performance in incredible for the price.
I recommend this highly.

Don't Waste Your Time or Money
The 2 negative reviewers had it dead on.
I got this machine on Saturday, I set it up for return on Sunday.
I read the terrible instructions for a week before it came. I read any review and descriptions extensively. I followed it to the letter and when it came time-I wasted almost 1 lb. of Illy Coffee.
I got it through Amazon affiliate JL Hufford on discount of $449-and that is spending too much.
It may be designed in Italy (by the same folks who make old Fiats that leak oil in the driveway?) but it is built in Taiwan-and poorly at that.
It was full of grinds-which the manual and supplement do say comes from testing and had about 20 on the counter-which is to be expected.
However, it could not do a fine grind; barely made crema; showed out of water when the tank was full; could not make a true "Tall." A double tall made about 6-7 ounces.
The steam is a joke.
I'm going to get the Saeco Easy instead.
Oh-and I had to remount a light under my counter because this thing is so damn big.
It's basically a very cheap knock-off of high-end machines.
And the clock-same issue as the other-gains 2 hours every 12 hours...clearly it was designed for 50Hz AC (European) and at 60Hz AC (U.S.) it runs at 6/5 speed-even the worst alarm clocks have fixed that with DC power!
Hideous and shameful design.
Plan to pack it up tonight or tomorrow after cleaning it and waiting for a call tag.
This thing is a dog-and it doesn't hunt...
The only good thing I do have to say is JL Hufford so far has been great-so don't let this poor product cloud your view of them. If the return goes without a hitch, then I won't be editing the review. If the return does not, I'll edit and post an update below:

A super deal on superautomatic
I received this as a gift and was thrilled to see it. We set it up within minutes we had great espresso and cappuccino. We had freinds over who loved the machine so much they bought one too. The price cannot be beat. And for what you get with this unit, it is worth $1,000.00.
I love the ease of just pressing the button and all is done for you. Frothing the milk is so simple with the powerful steamer.
I have seen many machines at friends homes, but never one this simple and great to use. Have made over 700 coffees with it so far. And it tells me that too. It lets me know when it is time to clean it.
If you are in the market for an espresso machine, this is one to get.
Enjoy!
