- YOU SHOULD READ THIS
- I BOUGHT THIS SYSTEM A WEEK AGO FROM 6TH AVE ELECTRONICS, WHO DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO AND DELIVERED ON TIME, I GOT IT ALL HOOKED UP ABOUT 2 DAYS AGO. I HAVE TO SAY IT IS A GOOD BARGAIN FOR THE PRICE SO FAR. IF YOU ARE AN AUDIO HEAD LIKE ME THEN YOU WANT OT CONSIDER BUYING ANOTHER CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER RIGHT AWAY, OR A DIFFERENT SYSTEM. I HAVE AN ONKYYO 705 THAT IS THX CERTIFIED AND I USED THE AUDISSEY SPEAKER SET UP TO CALIBRATE THE SPEAKERS. THE RECIEVER IS 5 STARS, BUT THE CENTER CHANNEL OF THIS SPEAKER SYSTEM GETS DROWNED OUT BY THE REST OF THE SYSTEM. i HAVE TO BALST MY SYSTEM TO HEAR WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING, AND ICAN NOT HEAR EVERYTHING I USE TO ON MADDEN 08 WITH MY OLD SYSTEM. TO PUT IT SIMPLY I REPLACED A $300 ALL IN ONE SONY 5.1 SYSTEM. I CAN HEAR MOVIES AND VIDEO GAMES MUCH CLEARER WITH A SYSTEM THAT COST AS MUCH AS THESE SPEAKERS COST. i BOUGHT THIS SYSTEM TO START OUT WITH UNTIL I REPLACE IT WITH A THX CERTIFIED SPEAKER SYSTEM. I READ MANY REVIEWS AND WAS DIDSAPOINTED WITH THE OVERALL SOUND. THE REST OF THE SYSTEM SEEMS GOOD. I WILL KNOW WHEN I BUY A NEW CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER JUST HOW GOOD IT IS. I AM RATING THIS AS A 3 STAR BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS JUST THE CENTER CHANNEL OR THE SYSTEM. I WILL KNOW IN ABOUT 3 WEEKS WHERE IT IS REALLY RATED. I ALSO THIN IT IS A 3 STAR BECAUSE OF THE FALSE ADVERTISMENT ON ONKYO' S PART. THE SUB IS ONLY 130 WATTS AND DOES NOT SOUND ANY DEEPER THAN THE 50 WATT SONY SUB THAT CAME WITH THE $300 RECEIVER AND SPEAKER SYSTEM I BOUGHT 4 YEARS AGO. ALSO THE FRONT SPEAKERS ARE MAGNECTLY SHEILDED. THIS IS A GOOD SYSTEM FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER HAD 5.1, 6.1, & 7.1 SOUND SYSTEM. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE WROTE A REVIEW LIKE THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT THE SYSTEM. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SHOPPING.

- You can't beat this buy
- These speakers have great sound for the price. I agree with most of the comments posted prior regarding: Speaker wires, connector, and mount. I used my own cable/wire but wished I could have been able to use a banana connector for the speaker. I used the Sanus WMS-2 for the large speakers and the Sanus WMS-5 for the surround speakers. I had no difficulty mounting them.
I am driving the speakers with a Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K. The speakers came up short when I let the Pioneer determine how to use them. However, by adjusting the db bias and crossover, I was able to get some pretty darn good performance out of the speakers.
On a slightly negative note, I would be surprised if the sub-woofer really was capable of pushing 230 watts to the actual speaker. I wouldn't be surprised if Onkyo isn't referring to the amount of power draw from an 110v outlet. I have the speaker biased +15db and the rheostat on the back maxed.
My home theater room is 23'3" x 15'7". The floor is carpeted and the room has a tray ceiling. The speakers are mounted per Dolby recommended height and position. The speakers are more than adequate for this room.
Again, for the price, you're getting a heck of a deal. - 2008-02-08, 2 of 2 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Crystal Clear sound, but lacks "punch" in the bass levels
- In general, I've been very happy with the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Surround Speaker System. I selected them out of sheer laziness to match the Onkyo receiver that I bought around the same time, expecting them to be best matched to Onkyo equipment. I primarily use the equipment in a home theater, which doubles as a part-time family room for watching TV.
For clarity of sound, I have never owned better speakers. Unlike with my older Infinity speakers, I can hear each and every sound and understand what people are saying even at low volume levels. My only complaint is that the bass response seems to be a bit weaker than I would expect. The subwoofer doesn't produce quite the power I anticipated without adjusting it to a high level. I have found that part of the problem is that the subwoofer is on pile carpeting, which seems to have a pronounced deadening effect. Placing the subwoofer on a hard, but vibration-resistant material helps a lot. The front speakers also don't have quite the punch in the bass range that I was expecting. Again, part of the problem may be setup. Although I tried to mount the speakers in the optimal location, the bottom two inches are obscured by surrounding equipment (from the perspective of the listener). Adjusting the equalizer to enhance bass ranges seems to mostly eliminate the problem.
All in all, I think this speaker set was a really good value for the money, and despite the minor complaints I have, I would repeat the purchase without a second thought. - 2008-01-15, 2 of 3 people found this review helpful, Rated:

- Great Speakers
- I am not a certified audio guru of anything like that, but I am completely satisfied with these speakers. They produce wonderfully full sound and great bass. This system is the best system for the money, and better than some speakers that cost more. If you are looking for good speakers, that happen to be affordable, get these and you will not regret it.
