- Poor Customer Service
- Nuance has the worst customer service in the industry. Even before purchasing one of their products and their advertising customer support, they simply don't reply to any e-mail inquiries.

- I rarely write these reviews but since I was very impressed I thought I'd share my thoughts on this Standard edition of Naturally Speaking Version 9
The product does what it says and is generally pretty accurate. I took the time to do the exercises so the system would improve its recognition of my speaking and writing patterns. I'd certainly recommend you do this.
I'm writing a book, so I know the program will be a big time saver. I knocked out 4 pages in the time it would have taken me to manually write one page in the past.
One challenge with talking out text rather than typing is that it needs heavier editing (we all tend to go off on tangents when speaking, which needs to be cleaned up for easier reading). The voice recognition system is pretty accurate. I wouldn't say it's 99% but perhaps 90%+ for general speaking (I talk fast). 95% plus if I'm going at a slower pace.
One thing I do note, is that having read other reviews, you need to have a relatively fast computer for using the program. I just bought a new Compaq with the Intel Pentium D two core processor (2.80 gHz, 960 MB Ram). I doubt this program would have worked on my year-old lap-top which is significantly slower. So, if you have an old or slow computer, you should consider upgrading b/4 this program based on other reviews i've seen in the past.

- Dragaon Naturally Speaking
- I bought a number of these Voice Software packages before, and was disappointed. They were more hassle than they were worth. This one is the real deal. It is a very helpful tool. The accuracy is amazing, the microphone is more discriminating (other mikes would mistake breathing for talking), and it has a big vocabulary. A bonus is that it's up to date on culture and current events. It knows who Osama bin Laden, Senator Joe Lieberman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Springsteen are.

- Program is Awesome!
- I was concerned this program would not work on my laptop because I only have 512k of RAM. But the program works totally fine and it's a great program!
I was scared at first because I plugged in the headset/microphone and immediately my mouse started to jump around erratically when I tried to move it, but all I had to do was load the program onto the computer and my mouse started working fine again.
For example, I was able to open Firefox, navigate to Amazon, search for this program,go to the comments section, and write this review without ever touching my mouse.
I have the standard version which seems to work fine with Microsoft Word or any other Windows based program. I'm not sure what the "preferred" version of this program gives you over and above the standard version.

- Rebate Deception
- The Dragon Naturally Speaking is a good product which works as advertised. One of the reasons I purchased the program from Amazon was that they were offering a rebate of $44. I downloaded the rebate form and did exactly as instructed. When Naturally Speaking Standard Edition arrived I noticed the UPC Code on the box looked different from the picture on the rebate form. However since I had ordered the program from Amazon and downloaded the accompanying rebate form, I thought, this company is honorable and will stand by their word. I was wrong. I got a notice saying that they were refusing my rebate application. I half-way expected this sort of ruse, but I was very disappointed by this deceptive process. I'm a faithful Amazon customer, but I'll never believe a rebate offer again.
