- Somewhat overrated
- This program isn't anywhere near the 99% accuracy that they claim. I get more like 80% accuracy, and only if I speak slowly. Sometimes it seems to hear voices and types really random stuff. I currently do not have the use of my left hand so it still beats typing with one hand, especially at this price. Nuance customer service is horrible. I called to ask about the RAM requirements, and it was clear that the person I talked was fairly computer illiterate and did not know the difference between RAM and hard drive space. The RAM requirement at the company website simply says that you need 512 MB of RAM which may lead you believe that a 512 MB computer will work. However, that will not suffice. Despite what any representative may tell you, since once you open the owner's manual it says you must have 512 MB of free RAM. You'd think that would be something their customer service would know. Though the requirements say you have to have a sound card, the program is running for me without one. I don't know if it would work better if I had one. Unfortunately I do not trust their customer service to give me the right answer, if I call them about it. Also, the commands that are supposed to work in your e-mail program work fine with Outlook Express. But they do not function in regular Outlook which is merely annoying that they claim capabilities that it does not have. The microphone headset they give you is cheap and mine has already broken after just a few weeks, I am using the program to type this and I've already made dozens of corrections. If you have two perectly good hands to type with you may want to give them some time to improve the technology, but if not it's nice to have, though frustrating if you have high expectations.

- Rather helpful when hands are sore from typing.
- This is an okay product. Buy a separate microphone, though. The earphone/mike combination is a pain[...]. You will have to do voice training in order to get the computer to recognize your speech pattern. I have had this freeze up my computer when in use (I do medical dictation) and have had to remove and re-install a few times.
Otherwise, it works okay. I would recommend it if you have extreme difficulty typing (depending on your speech pattern, you may have a little typing to correct errors). - 2008-01-29, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- XP users be aware....
- I bought this product thinking it would be a great help with writing instructional materials. Unfortunately the first screen that appeared upon installation was a warning pop-up that the product has known bugs with the version of XP I have.
Now I have to track down the fix before I can even start the software for the first time.
That is no bueno!!!!!! - 2008-01-27, 5 of 6 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Save your money - it's not accurate enough for real-world use no matter how much you train it
- I've spent hours voice-training this thing and it still isn't accurate enough to be of any real use. You can expect to have to go back and spend a lot of time editing anything you dictate with it. If you're planning on being able to talk into the air and let your thoughts form words in the computer - this isn't going to do it for you and here's why.
If it doesn't understand part of what you're saying it will stop and start to think about what it's recorded. You have to stop what you're saying and let it catch up, even if you have a very fast computer. If you just keep talking it will eventually just throw it all out and there's no record of what you said. So this means you can't talk with whatever comes to mind, you have to constantly watch it and stop every minute or so and manually edit its mistakes or wait for it to catch up. This program is essentially a toy that's not worth the even the shipping charges.
Save your money.
You're much better off paying a transcriptionist to do it right than to spend hours figuring out that this thing won't do it at all. - 2008-01-24, 11 of 13 people found this review helpful, Rated:
