Revenge of the Gingerbread Man!

Revenge of the Gingerbread Man!

Average Customer Rating: Recommend

“Revenge of the Gingerbread Man!” updates and continues the tale of a cookie come to life, but with a few movie monster thrills, snappy one-liners and, of course, a classic fairy tale ending. I wrote it to introduce young readers to the joys of satire and parody, and to give read-aloud readers like parents and library assistants a story they can really ham up. It's longer than a typical picture book, but it barrels along like…

An enjoyable children's story with some adult themes to learn as well!
The farmer's wife, like all fine farmer's wives are wont to do, was filling the house with the aroma of fresh baking. But (and these silly little mistakes are bound to happen from time to time), the gingerbread man she was making got an extra dose of Baker's Friend® brand Speedy-Rise(tm) yeast before it was popped into the oven. And, horror of horrors, before the baking is done, we've got a 50 foot gingerbread man running amok intent on wreaking havoc and taking vengeance for every little gingerbread person that was gobbled up before him.
Even if the youngsters won't have the experience to recognize it, the adults reading it to their children will appreciate the fact that this is not only an enjoyable (if fractured) fairy tale in its own right. It's also a cute parody and a first rate spoof of every fairy tale that went before it.
With the help of their parents reading to them, children will perhaps learn to look past stereotypes and understand that friends and heroes can be in places you might not normally look.
Good job, Mr Ekaitis. Recommended reading for parents with their children.

fine children's story--and great for the child in all of us
Joe Ekaitis scores a huge goal with his sweet (and sometimes not-so-sweet), captivating children's story, Revenge Of The Gingerbread Man. Joe writes beautifully with good attention to detail and this makes his characters, both human and animal, come alive in this short story. I think children will enjoy this story being read to them by parents and other grownups; and not even the parents and grownups will mind revisiting this story over and over again.
Revenge Of The Gingerbread Man has characters that come alive and pop out at you as they evoke all sorts of emotions, positive and negative. Every word Joe writes is carefully chosen to create just the right effect for his readers. This story, therefore, should be one of the more popular ones in this Amazon short category for quite some while to come.
My only cautionary note is that some very young or sensitive children might be a bit frightened by one or two of the images in this short story; but otherwise Revenge Of The Gingerbread Man is bound to be a favorite. I myself enjoyed it thoroughly.
If you like stories for your children with creativity, energy and wonderful attention to detail, pick this one by Joe Ekaitis. I predict that your children are going to like this one very much.

As The World Turns, So The Cookie Crumbles. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
The ending in this short was a heart warmer of the first water. During and after the last scene happy groans and audible cozy sighs came automatically from my internal workings. Of course I was also delighted that the whole story rushed gleefully and entertainingly, almost stumbling-ly toward the perfect point of the story's concluding scene. All along the way, many speedy word arrangements and plot tumbles provided out-loud, welcome chuckles.
"REVENGE OF THE GINGERBREAD MAN" is a winner. I see why it has remained so consistently high on the Amazon Shorts list. Given my antique, creaking brain patterns and preferences, usually I'm put off by anything which says it's aimed toward young readers. In this case, I feel like the creaks got oiled and I'll read it again, like I would listen to a particular piece of music which I can count on to cause a needed effect in my mood moments.
Speaking of which, Ekaitis has actually achieved a real rhythm in the syntax of this Short, which carries the reader like a happily-skipping child moving along with the feisty characters. Here's one of my favorite funny passages, using words which stick in the mind:
>> "... oh fer the love of omelets! Would you LOOK at this MESS!" said the Gingerbread Man, lifting his foot from the rubble. It dripped with a goo of wood, straw, eggshells and raw egg. <<
But, none of the naturally exquisite storytelling skill would matter as much without the happy-sigh ending. That would be my kind of world. Please let it be.
Bursting into an old Beatle's song, I'll sing, "Let it be, let it be, let it be'ee, let it be .... speaking words of wisdom ... let it be, let it be." I don't know that this song has the same theme as this Amazon Short, but that refrain fits how I'd like the world to be.
I like how you think and write, Joe Ekaitis... Here's how I think and write, in ways amazingly similar to your "Revenge," in the bottom lines of food fantasy & reality, Coal & Coca-cola

Wow! What a story! A kids classic in the making!
I truly enjoy reading children's stories ... and writing them too. I read a lot of them and was pleasantly surprised by this author's fresh voice and the entertaining, exciting storyline. He has a great sense of humor and adventure; the lyrical quality of his style is perfect for kids from toddlers to about age eight.
I've read everything from THE MONSTER WHO ATE MY PEAS to THE BOY UNDER THE BED to all of Shel Silverstein's works and this is on a par with them and other mainstream books I've read.
This author described the charming, captivating characters so vividly I easily pictured them as I read along. With a good artist to do illustrations, GINGERBREAD MAN could make a charming picture book ... a classic in the making.
I predict a bright future for Joe Ekaitis. I kid you not!!!
