The Union Army returns in force to Front Royal. The Confederates are too weak to prevent this. Belle and Alice are dismayed to learn that not only has Clark been passed through the lines, but that he has written a scurrilous article about them, which accuses Belle of being “an accomplished prostitute”. Belle holds a press conference to refute the story and denies having led the Confederate attack the week before. Keily is making plans to marry her, which is the last thing she wants. Belle decides it is time to get out and asks Banks for a pass through the lines to Richmond, which he denies. In Martinsburg, David Strother collects intelligence and then briefs Sir Percy Wyndham about Ashby. Wyndham is convinced he can capture the newly made Confederate general. Ashby is chewed out by Stonewall Jackson for letting his men loot horses from the Union column and disappear rather than finishing the job of destroying Bank's army. He has been promoted over Jackson's objections for political reasons. Learning of Wyndham's plans to trap him, Ashby seeks redemption by arranging a trap of his own and captures the English officer. Wyndham is sent under guard to see Jackson.

- Clever dialogue rediscovers its 2nd wind in this dozenth part of THE SHENANDOAH SPY...
- Lookit, you're going to positively dig the dialectic between Stonewall Jackson and Ashby in this 12th section, folks.
It's a hum-dinger, Sir Francis Hamit at his vintage best.
Steinmauer (Stonewall) treats the newly minted Brigadier Ashby to a caustic dressing-down and kick in the posterior, to put the roiling vengeful Ashby back in his proper subordinate place. More reviews
