- I was very satisfied. The disply is clear and easily viewed while driving. Being able to listen to sattelite radio while walking or jogging is a very nice feature

- Great Item for Stiletto
- This is a base, for the stiletto, for your car. The base charges the Stiletto while it's sitting in the base. It comes with a remote control (too small in size, but still nice), that makes it convenient to operate your radio. The base buttons are lit up for ease (glance) while driving.
I used the vent grill hooks option to mount it to the dash, works quite well. There are a few solutions for mounting, that come with it. Note: There is an aftermarket floor stand for it, that is a flexible cable rod, and easily mounts to the floor via a seat floor bolt, that would make it less inviting to theives. For now, I hang a black wool cap over the radio. This is because it is a pain to constantly mount and unmount the radio from the base, and I'm a little leary of wear and tear on the connection interface on the bottom of the radio. When you try to grab the radio and pull up on it, there is just very little surface area to grab without pressing other buttons, latches, etc. Ok to mount/dismount when necessary. There is another web site for getting both the FM Direct Adapter and extra adapter cables you'll need. Search on Metra Antennaworks product 40gm30, then hone in on your own car info. Without a casette player in the dash, it's the only real solution for hook up to your car audio system. I have a Chevy Trailblazer. In my case, go behind the glove box, and there is a radio antenna wire coupling, allowing for super easy installation for the FM Direct Adapter. This is the only Stiletto car base available, (as far as I know) and it does the trick. - Nice vehicle kit
- I received the stiletto as a xmas gift and was confused at first why I'd need a car kit for a portable satellite radio. I guess I'm still a bit confused, because the unit in my opinion should work as a "portable" device. Oh well.
My next question was.... If I get the car kit, do I truly have to install the antenna? Would it be good enough to just set the antenna puck on my dash board or rear shelf? First let me say, using the Stilleto in my car (in Illinois) *without* the car kit sucked. It was truly a test of my patience, as I could hardly make it through a song with "Aquiring Signal" showing up on my unit. I rate this frustration right up their with untangling shoelaces or xmas lights!
After trying for a few weeks to use the Stiletto in my car without the car kit, and having great patience, I decided to purchase the SLV1. I've had the kit now for about 2 weeks and so far I've been very happy with it. I didn't professionally install the antenna yet, but just have the puck sitting on my dashboard. So far not a single interrupted song or program.
I found a local installer, who quoted me about $60-65 to install the vehicle kit. At this point, I'm not sure if I'm going to have it more permanently installed as I'm getting a great signal.
I still haven't found the optimal place to "mount" the base of the unit in my car, and that might be part of my hesitation of getting it permanently installed. I don't like the MANY wires and would like to figure out how to best hide them, and tuck them away. There are three wires going to my unit (audio, power, and antenna), and some of these cables are real long, especially the antenna. But, you certainly need a long antenna cable if you're permanently installing the unit.
I use the audio output, I've heard lots of folks complain about the FM transmitter. I agree that a direct audio input is probably best.
One thing I think would be ideal, is a "kit" that could be used both in my car AND in my house. When I got the Stiletto I was hoping for more of a portable solution. I really like the features of Stiletto. They did a good design job. If you're debating getting the SLV1, get it. You'll be glad. I didn't really think I'd need or use the remote control since the unit is pretty much at arms length, but it's nice having the remote as you are less distracted when changing channels, and your arm can be resting on your center console while pressing keys rather than reaching out to keep pressing keys. - 2008-02-05, 3 of 3 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Radio on the go!
- I love this radio! I have been a sirius subscriber for about 4 years and when my old receiver died I knew what I waned in a new one - portability! This receiver allows you to move it between different cars or in to your house. The record feature is great! You can record shows and play them back when you have time. I would recommend this radio to anyone.

- Easy installation, I was happy that I could quickly put the unit together, and find a place in the vehicle for placement. I like the fact that it also came with enough pieces that I had several options during the installation process to choose from; whether it be vent mount, or dash location. I recommend this kit to anyone looking to purchase a similar unit.
