Great product
This is an amazing product. The clarity of sound is above satisfactory. The reception I give an A-. The clock lacks in accurate time keeping and lags about 4 minutes per month so I have to keep updating the time piece. However I can say that I am satisfied with this free OTA radio. I live in Orange County which is located between Los Angeles and San Diego Counties and the amount of radio stations that I can tune in is more than I could have imagined, all FM presets are programmed. I have my radio connected to a $20.00 RCA HDTV amped antenna that depending on the position of the antenna I can listen to almost all types of music from Jazz to Heavy Metal, Classical and Rap mostly from L.A., Orange Stations, and some San Diego Stations. The RCA outputs go directly to my 10 year old Technics integrated amp with Pro Logic Dolby Surround Sound that when I increase the volume I can here instruments that I could not hear before. This device works well depending on geographics and I do recommend a dedicated not so expensive amplified antenna. AM HD Stations also come in clear like the FM stations but in my area it is mostly talk radio. [...].

GOOD PRODUCT, FAIRLY PRICED, GREAT DIGITAL SOUND
PERHAPS THIS IS THE ONLY TUNER IN THE MARKET UNDER $.200.
SET UP IS EASY AND QUICK. ONLY THING YOU MAY NEED AN AMP OR A RECEIVER WITH ADEQUATE INPUTS..
RECEPTION IS EXCELLENT SINCE, I LIVE OUTSIDE WASHINGTON DC.
THE SOUND IS OBVIOUSLY DIGITAL AND IT IS ALMOST CLOSE TO THE FULL AUDIO SPECTRUM.
A GOOD BUY FROM SANGEAN WHO IS POPULAR FOR SHORT WAVE RADIOS.
IF ONE WISHES TO FIND THE STATIONS EITHER HE OR SHE COULD SCAN THE HD SECTION OF THE TUNER OR TRY A SEARCH ENGINE.
WHY THEY NAMED IT HD RADIO? WHO KNOWS? HI-BRID COULD BE AN IDEAL NAME.

AM but not FM
This product works very well with AM HD, but I have yet to receive FM HD. I bought this for AM HD, so it's not a problem for me. I am in an FM and TV "dead zone" between two hills, and I have not tried an outside antenna, so others may get better results. I have also learned that FM HD signals are 10 times weaker than their analog counterparts, so this may explain why so many people are having trouble with HD radio.

Sangean HDT-1 Radio Tuner
Easy to set up and able to receive both feeds from several stations in the Denver area in crystal clear HD radio. Difficulty maintaining a lock. Sangean tech support indicated that this was a problem with the radio station and there is some difference between various stations. Some other stronger stations maintain lock longer but eventually do lose it. The NPR station set up some testing and looked into it and believe that the problem is with the tuner. We set up preset number 1 to 90.1 HD-2 and hoped that would be the default when it loses lock but that did not work. It loses lock to HD-2 feed of 90.1 (NPR News) and reverts back to HD-1 (Classical music) feed a couple of times per day. Testing with a Cambridge SoundWorks 820HD tabletop radio shows that it does not lose lock and does not change from HD-2 to HD-1 even if unplugged or disconnecting the antenna. This whole technology needs some development. However, the Sangean provides incredibly clear sound to our stereo system where we were unable to achieve this in the past despite spending money on antennas, etc. We will keep and enjoy this stereo component and hope that eventually they will figure out how to keep the station locked to the preset that we select. Somehow it would seem that they could have a chip or software that would be smart enough to tell the tuner to return to what was in preset-1 whenever it loses lock.

Sangean HDT-1
First, a quick note to Linda S. of Newark, NJ - The Sangean HD tuner is just that, an external tuner, without a amplifier attached. I run my tuner into the "aux" selection of my two channel Phillps receiver. It is a fairly easy fix.
As for the unit. I have the "T" antenna flat up on the wall, and I live 50 miles south of San Francisco. The unit pulls in every FM HD signal, including the HD 2 channels (KFOG HD2 - "Ten @ Ten" 24/7 - Excellent!).
As For AM, there is a need for a better AM antenna, I use the Terk Loop Antenna, with the ability to fine tune the AM band. HD on AM is slightly better than analog AM, but on weaker stations it tends to drop in and out.
The tuner on AM does allow me to pull in some distant AM stations, and reject some fairly close AM stations. KSRO 1350 AM (80-90 miles north of me, can be tuned in while rejecting KZSF 1370 AM - 3 miles from my home).
The unit is easy to set up and operate.
Minuss - You cannot "de-tune" the HD signal to switch back to analog, it is automatic on the switch to HD if the station is transmitting in HD.
No optical output (There might be one on the HDT1X model).
The clock runs slow. I reset for daylight savings in March, is is now 20 minutes behind the times.
For people who want better clarity on their FM tuners, the Sangean HDT-1 is one of the better choices, with a better FM section than the Boston Acoustic Receptor radio (FYI this week BA announced the HD receptor radio is being discontuned, with no replacement in sight), or the Radio Shack house brand HD radio.
