Not good for first-time married-filed-jointly couples!
I have been using TurboTax since I started working full-time after graduating form college. This year TurboTax really drops the ball:
1) I didn't have any ESPP transactions for a few years. Tax year 2006 I had some, and that was when I realized that nowadays they force you to use TurboTax premier for ESPP calculations. The last time I had ESPP in 2000 or so, the deluxe version at that time could assist you to calcuate ESPP transactions with wizards. Now you can't with deluxe version.
2) For first-time married-filed-joinly couples, they have to do a lot of work trying to merge their filed-single returns from 2005. The deluxe version simply does not handle this at all. Even if it helps you transfer the 2005 returns, they don't merge the data properly. For instance, if both couple have short/long-term capital loss carryovers from 2005, the deluxe version does not do that for you. Same for state/local taxes paid/refunded. Worse, if even if you try to correct it, sometimes you can't. There is obvious bugs, and I have to choose override from the menu to directly update the forms.
3) Nitpick: when you choose to print out the every forms, by default they print out all those only for federal taxes. I have to go to the State tab and choose my state, go back to the print menu, to print state tax forms.
I am not sure it that may be because this year is the first year I use the Mac version of TurboTax (I use PC versions before). But I really do not have a good tax preparation experience this year. Next year I may consider to switch.

WORKS WITH SIMPLICITY
My feelings are...if you have simple income, not a lot of financial dealings, this program will walk you thru your returns with no difficulty. I've only done Fed & State with 2 incomes, 1 home, with all the associated deductions and the program handled everything. Using the program is a snap and it saves me about $200-300 over using a tax preparer, who asks me questions just like this program does. You simply need to sort out all your receipts, etc., the same as you need to do for a live preparer.

Love it!
I have usually scorned my Dad's reliance on Turbo Tax. But when I found out that many deductions were added after tax forms had been printed, I thought it might pay to pony up for Turbo Tax. I'm very glad I did. My refund was substantially more that it otherwise would have been. Turbo Tax is easy to use and the e-filing option allowed me to receive my refund (both Fed and State) within about a week. A great experience! I'll be buying Turbo Tax next year!

A good value and surprisingly accurate.
I bought this to help my Wife, since she files taxes for her mother. We usually have an accountant handle our taxes, but this year was a nice surprise: TurboTax and the accountant were a match. I feel confident doing our own taxes next year if needed.
The step-by-step workflow makes it very easy to complete your taxes, assuming you've collected all of your paperwork and you have a mug of coffee ready. The software does keep you apprised of progress and it's very useful having a tool manage what needs to be considered. The outputs can be vendor-neutral, so your work doesn't have to remain tied to the product.
I don't see a problem with this software at all. I withheld a star because the updating program needed a little help getting through the process.

checks in the mail
product works great the only thing that I thought was B.S. was that to have your returns sent in via internet you have to pay an additional $32.00 and the turbotax company doesnt do anything additional except collect the money. in other words the ability to send it via the internet is already on the disk that you have already purchased.
