After a fitful nights sleep an old man struggles out of bed muttering to himself. He almost revels in his self pity. Suddenly out of the corner of his eye he spies the sleeping form of his wife. His whole demeanor changes as he remembers the excitement of their teenage romance. the pain and impatience of the six year wait, the joy of their 52 year marriage. He laughed to himself as he remembered moving from Oklahoma to North Carolina, then to Europe, then to California, back to Europe and finally ending up in Texas. The wealth of children, all healthy, all loud, all a joy. It seemed they arrived at every station pregnant and they left the same way. Both sets of parents felt their family was too large. They laughed at that fear. The exuberance of their love affair seemed to grow as the family did. His whole demeanor softened as he realized the excitement of his love was as strong as ever even as his faculties faltered. He chuckled to himself as he whispered their special words when he left the room to pour their coffee and begin another day.
