- Cable Modem
- Works Well! installation was real easy, but requires talking to cox to update mac address, (no big deal 5 minute process).

- Replaced 3COM and works Great
- This Motorola Surfboard SB5101 replaced a 3COM cable modem which I had for less than a year. The old cable modem was dropping the signal constantly. I called Comcast and they did diagnostics several times over the phone and came out to my house and found no issues with any of the wiring. Eventually I decided to replace the 3COM device with this one. WOW! what a difference that made. This unit has been rock solid since day 1. I am also seeing the benefits of PowerBurst with Comcast that I definitly was not seeing before. In talking with the Comcast support people this is one cable modem they give a thumbs up to.

- updating cable modems is not painless
- Item is not plug and play. If this a replacement for another modem you need to contact your cable company to synch the device. It also required resetting the wirless router which required calling the wireless router provider and if you are using VOIP it requires resetting the phone adapter to synch with the modem and router. Needless to say it was not a painless experience. Outside of that the modem works great.

- Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem
- Unfortunately, I am not happy with this product. I called Time Warner, who is my internet provider and told them I had purchased my own cable modem, which is the exact model I have been leasing from them. They had me hook it up, while on the phone with them, and after registering the serial number they needed, we could not get it to work, trying everything the gentleman could think of and also he put his advisor on, and he could not get it to work. So, I suggested trying to hook up their modem that I had unhooked and sure enough, it worked immediately. So, the cable modem, brand new out of the box that you shipped it to me, did not work. I had no idea how to return the item so sent in my rebate slip for $20 so that I would not be out the $50 it cost to purchase. Not a real happy consumer on this product.
