“Wisdom by the Water's Edge” is a short story about the life and times of a people on an old isolated island along the coast of the Carolina Lowcountry. This culture has been passed down from generation to generation, and is from the West Africans who were brought here as slaves centuries ago. It is a tradition of the elders to pass down information and history to the youngsters by telling stories to them. My father was born and raised on that old isolated island, and I wrote this short story to document the history and culture as passed down to me.
