- The Keys to The Kingdom
- Straight Talk is a real eye opener!
Terry sits down with you and in a "straight talk" manner, connects all the dots with a bright red line as to why and how you are sabotaging your book proposal before it is ever reviewed by an acquisitions editor.
From the 6 keys of why book ideas are rejected, to the 6 keys that guarantee a rejection, and on to the 6 keys to gain an editors attention, Terry hands you the keys to the kingdom of a successful submission! - 2006-12-10, 4 of 4 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Great help for writers
- Terry Whalin has done it again! He's given both seasoned and aspiring writers good, solid guidance on writing. Actually, more than writing -- Terry is telling writers the specifics of getting published, which is the other side of the writing coin. Divided into three sections, Terry looks at the submissions process from an experienced editor's viewpoint -- which he is. But this time we get the inside scoop from an editor who wants to be helpful and takes the time to help. This is the best $0.49 you'll ever spend!

- Lives Up To Its Title
- Terry Whalin is that rare species of editor who freely shares his expertise with writers, encouraging and educating them in many of the nuances of the writing and publishing profession. This little piece contains some excellent advice, and makes a good companion piece to his book, Book Proposals That Sell, another must-have in the library of a writer.

- Just like the author says: "Straight Talk..."
- One of my first purchases on Amazon Shorts, and happy to say it is well worth the money. Actually, the advice (or shall I say point of view) offered by Mr. Whalin is priceless. I've been struggling with submissions to both publishing houses and literary agents for over a year now, and although I have sold my first novel without an agent, the struggle never ends. So, in order to have time for writing, rather than querying, I have decided to look for a literary agent. Not that I have made any of the mistakes Mr. Whalin mentions, but I have failed to include any and all of the things he recommends. Having a marketing plan is tough, finding a high profile endorsement seems even tougher. All the authors I admire are dead, and of the few new ones I truly enjoy, most are either unknown or protected by a barrier made of publicist, agents, unlisted contact info, etc. However, I have enjoyed Mr. Whalin's writing, learn some new points and thanks to this short, I have taken a hard look at my own query letter. Certainly a read worth your time for anyone who takes their writing career seriously.
