- Why is it everyone loves a great flashlight ?
- This is a great flashlight. The size, feel and performance all scream "big bucks" and then you discover that this little beauty costs about as much as two grande lattes at Starbucks. I have one in each car and they have come in handy looking for street signs, house addresses and map reading. Last Christmas, I gave everyone in my department their own Mini Mag Lite. I can't tell you how many times they have come and told me how handy they have proven to be. When you've thrown away your last broken plastic, made in a place you can't spell or pronounce junk flashlight, go and get one of these babies. You will smile. Really!

- Great light, but...
- I like the light - it puts out a great beam, it does not weigh much, it seems to be sturdy enough... the problem I have with it is it tends to turn on when carried in a pocket. To turn it on, the head is twisted. When walking around with the light in a pocket, which I need to do for my work, movement tends to turn the light on. I have ran through numerous batteries this way, and of course, batteries always need to be replaced at the most inconvenient times.

- For me, the Pelican Verasabrite II is better
- Don't get me wrong, I used a MiniMag for years, but then I was given a Pelican Versabrite. While the original Versabrite was not as bright as the MiniMag (and no focusing), it has a tiltable head and built in clips to mount to a hat brim or shirt pocket - useful features when you have to inspect things and take notes at night, or otherwise need light and need both hands free. The Versabrite II ended the controversy. It's brighter, no matter how the the MiniMag is focused.
By the way, for a keyring light, try one of the coin-sized LED lights like the Photon Microlight. They're amazing.

- Best Little Light Bar NONE!
- I own every 2 - 6 D Cell Mag Lite makes. Finest flashlights you can buy. I own 3 AA Mini Mags for both my cars and office. Problem is I think I'm starting to collect them! They're truly a work of art as their motto states and as durable a light there is. There's a Fry's Electronics store near my house and the other day I saw a Mini Mag in Pewter. Gorgeous. Didn't buy it, but I think next time I'm there I will just to have it. (Wife say's it's a problem.) Colors of these flashlights are truly gorgeous (especially the Purple, Blue, and Pewter) on their aircraft aluminum body. A great accessory is the nylon case that will protect the flashlight. If you're planning on purchasing the AA Mini Mag or any of the Mag Lite line of flashlights take the thing apart and see how they're made and you'll know why I'm hooked. :-)

- Rugged and bright - and repairable!
- I own about 4 or 5 of these little lights and they are great. They easily fit into glove compartment, tool box, even your pocket and are always handy. My 2.5 year old son was fascinated with my flashlight and so I bought him a "cheap" immitation, which quickly broke. I replaced it with another and it, too, broke. I found them to be unrepairable. I then decided to get him his own mag light. Not only does he love it -- it's the first thing he asks for in the morning these days, but it was repairable. He had dropped it and tried to take it apart many times. Usually the drop either breaks the bulb or dents the top contact on the battery (which needs immediate replacement.) One time it just wasn't working after replacing the bulb and battery. I almost gave up when I decided to take apart the plastic ring that holds the bulb (it actually says "do not remove") I was surprised to find how easily it came out to expose the contacts. The contact that touches the housing that turns the light on and off was slightly corroded/gunked up. I cleaned it lightly with steel wool and snapped it back together and it worked! All in all, a handy, rugged, and repairable little light!
Buy several.
