All Sony ES single-well decks feature a 3-head design - recording and playback functions are handled by separate heads, each optimized for its specific task. Another benefit of a 3-head design is "tape monitoring." You can switch back and forth between listening to the signal at the record and playback heads, and tweak bias and level controls for the best possible recordings. All Sony ES 3-head decks also feature a ceramic cassette holder to fight resonance, plus Dolby B, C, and S noise reduction for exceptionally clean sound. The beautifully engineered TC-KA2ES features a 3-motor transport and high-density Sendust heads for exceptional performance and durability. Sony also added their W-core power transformer (using both an inner and outer core to minimize magnetic interference), and an anti-resonant aluminum front panel to ward off distortion-inducing vibrations. You even get a motorized tape door to assist cassette loading! Three-Point Record Calibration adjusts Record Level, Record Equalization and Record Bias to match each tape. It uses built-in oscillator to adjust the parameters. The monitor button allows you to compare the quality of the recorded sound with the sound of the program source while recording. Record muting allows you to insert a blank space between tracks. This unit is remote capable with compatible remote-controlled Sony Receiver.
