Unquestionably the best blender I've used
After much research and hand-wringing, I finally made the plunge and ordered 750-watt Breville blender from Amazon back in May 2008. Now that six months have passed, I figured I'd weigh in on my experience. I'm pleased to say that my comments echo most of the others here - this is an incredibly powerful, reliable, and easy-to-maintain appliance. I use it to make smoothies about 4 times per week and it handles the task effortlessly and without flaw.
I have owned two KitchenAid blenders since the early 90s (since I *thought* that was the premier blender brand at the time) and was always disappointed by the lack of smoothness in the final, blended product. No worries on that point with the Breville - the pre-programmed "Smoothie" function goes for a full minute and finishes off any chunks/large pieces along the way. Breville's advertising emphasizes the fact that their blending blades are unique in their ability to fully blend everything; this appears to be true and not marketing hyperbole.
I thought I had a leaking problem at one point, but it turns out that I simply didn't re-assemble the jar tightly enough after washing it. It is worth mentioning how well it comes apart for cleaning - it was designed with this in mind and is just another example of the great amount of thought that obviously went into this product.
At this point, I'm a full-fledged Breville convert.

second time's the charm
When I got the blender, it worked for 3 days, and then would only stay on for 3 seconds before stopping (except on ice crush.) I called Breville. They said they would send me a replacement citing mechanical failure. After I dropped it off at Fed X, it took about 4 weeks for the replacement to come. So far, it works great. The smoothie function rocks!

Great Blender!
After reading most of the reviews I decided to purchase this blender. I bought it about a week ago, and have been using it every day to make smoothies. It's a very powerful blender, and you don't have to babysit it as it's doing it's thing. It also doesn't leave any chunks of ice or fruit behind which is great! My only complaint is the rubber gasket, it may leak on you if you don't have it on right.

Great Blender
This is the best blender I've ever owned. It really does the job. My old one would always leave chunks behind. The blade design is different in this blender and it really gets all the way to the edge. It is a little heavy because the base under the glass carafe does not disconnect. It also collects water in this area after being washed and takes a while to dry. However, it's still a great blender and I would recommend it!

Blender leaks
Leaks__!, October 19, 2008
By Valerie A. Jones "She who reads a lot" (Virginia Beach, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This is very frustrating--I wish I'd read more of the reviews here to learn that this blender leaks.
We've used it almost every day for a month. Even when we think it's assembled as tight as can be, it still leaks. When re-assembling it, I've taken to blending soapy water first--if THAT leaks, it's not such a mess. If it's "safe," then I blend the smoothies. Smoothies are a lot messier to clean up.
What a hassle. Not worth $200 at this point--if it didn't leak it might be, as the blending power is better than average.
