Not as powerful as I expected
Considering the price and the long list of 5-star reviews for this thing, I expected more. I'm a tad bit skeptical of the other reviews after buying this thing for myself, and I'm not sure it's right of Vornado to label this fan as a "whole-room air circulator." What it is is a fan, not a replacement or even a supplement for an air conditioner. This isn't to say it isn't worth a look, but here are a few points to consider. The first thing I noticed after taking it out of the box was size: this fan was a lot larger than I expected. Second, I noticed its cheap plastic design - it's not an unattractive fan, but it made out of plastic, and doesn't feel like 70 dollars worth of material. But that's fine, the real question is whether it works, right? Well, one thing this fan can do is move air. Even on low, you can feel a steady breeze if you're in its path. The high mode is pretty loud, but if you're actually using it on that setting, you're probably very hot and more concerned with getting hit in the face with a high-velocity stream of cold air than being irritated by a whirring noise, right? Anyway, I tried positioning the fan to blow indirectly to get it to circulate the air, and that's where I started to get disappointed. The "constant current of air" that other reviewers mentioned was nowhere to be found. I didn't feel the room cool down at all. Standing in front of the fan's path cools me off instantly, but it doesn't, at least in my experience, seem to have much effect on the rest of the air in a room. If you're looking for a nice indirect, indoor breeze, I'm not sure you're going to get it from this product. If you're looking for a nice fan, the low setting does work brilliantly here, but again, it's 70 dollars. There are plenty of 20 dollar fans that do the same job.
The bottom line:
- Works well as a fan, but doesn't circulate the air as advertised
- Fan is larger than you might expect
- Decent product with decent quality, but not worth the 70 dollars (buy three cheap fans and place them around a room on low for a far superior result)
- Keep in mind my opinion is based on only a couple of days with the product, and it may change as I reposition it or use it more (I'll update if my opinion changes)

Vornado 733B High Velocity air circulator
I am amazed that this small air circulator had really kept my small house cool this summer. I have other fans in different areas of the house and none of them can do the job of the Vornado. I would highly recommend it. MDH

Great Fan, Awkward Control Placement
I think this is a great fan. It moves air very well and without much noise. I do have one complaint: the control dial is on the back of the fan. This is a very awkward place to reach, especially if the fan is not placed flat on its base. In the 45 or 90 degree positions (for lack of a better description) the dial is almost impossible to reach. You'll find yourself picking it up to access the dial. It's not a big deal, but I'm surprised to find such a obvious usability problem on an otherwise great product.

Not your ordinary fan!!!
Great fan.... works perfectly in the office. Circulates plenty of air, without moving papers around in the office!

First time vornado owner
I LOVE this unit! It's called an air circulator and sure enough it does that - but it's short-changing the product as a fan too since it's far stronger and effective than most box fans I've ever owned (even when the box fans are on high speed) - I have no idea what people are complaining about with regards to the *noise* - apparently they have never owned a box fan or stand fans or have forgotten the often high-pitched whirring noise they emanate - the vornado sounds no higher than an a/c unit when on full blast and quickly blends into background noise when you sleep. Even our 2 usually skittish cats walk around it and sleep only 10 feet away when it is on its highest setting! We live in a 4 room basement apartment and already it has lowered the temp by at least 5 degrees (its breeze reaches the furthest corner of the 2nd room it is directed towards)- we find keeping it in the straight ahead position on the floor in the same room as the a/c the most effective thus far but we've only owned it for 2 days and haven't experimented with a cross-draft effect near a window yet. It is light weight, sooo easy to carry and its compact design makes it truly portable. We bought a simple bathroom rug to place it on which has proven effective in reducing additional vibration noise on a vinyl floor. Already have advised family and friends to get one (2 are in the process of buying one as I write this).
