Robotics Roboquad
Robotics Roboquad is a hyper inflated toy that is hardly worth the small mental effort to put together a few indistinct mechanisms that resemble dumb cranes or hulking robotics. You can't do much with it, it's expensive and math and science lovers rave about it day in day out. It's overrated by everyone who has purchased one and there's no evidence that this is any more productive for the brain than a pile of bricks. This toy is pushed by the elitist robotic sub-culture who think they are the wave of the future.
If you are using it for kids, you're better off just getting a block set, an army set, and a classical Erector Building Set. You'll even have money left over to get a bike.
This is a robotic size piece of junk.

excellent little "robot"
My wife and kids bought me the red roboquad for my birthday this year. I think it's an incredibly entertaining toy. I'm 26 years old and I've been interested in robots for a long time, so maybe that skews my perspective a little, but I was incredibly eager to see what this thing could do.
I found it incredibly easy to navigate the basic controls. For more advanced features you'll need to give the control manual a once over, or just play with the remote for a while.
I've played with the robosapien before and have to say I prefer this model hands down. It's movement is way better, it can move in almost any direction fairly instantaneously. It does have some forms of movement to help it get past large obstacles, but you need to control it yourself to activate them, it won't initiate those movements on its own.
Some reviewers have complained about the autonomous modes, I found it incredibly enjoyable. We have several kittens, and at one point, the roboquad had locked onto one of the kittens and was following it around the living room. They really seemed to enjoy it. I was very impressed with its sensitivity to objects and obstacles, watching it scan its path and decide the best route is entertaining. of course it has other pre-programmed functions to make it wave, dance, roar, etc. but I do enjoy the autonomous exploration, and with the different levels of awareness, aggressiveness, etc. you can get some different results each time.
As I said earlier the roboquad does have movements you can initiate to get over large obstacles, but it's not something it will do on its own. It might be nice if it lifted its legs higher, or had another point of articulation, but for the price, and other features it offers I was very impressed with what it could do.
As the review started, I thoroughly enjoyed this gift and think it's an excellent little "robot" I'd call it a great birthday present.

cute toy that has video instructions
My husband bought RoboQuad for himself (we don't have kids). It looked too cute and shiny in its box. Getting it out of the box was an adventure - it was secured with so many straps that it took him a while. I am not sure why it needs to be secured so much since it doesn't not come with the batteries.
We made a video on some of the functions of RoboQuad on HandBookLive.com (under Toys). The instructions that came with the toy were confusing. My husband never read them and just poked the remote control hoping for the best. Maybe kids catch on quicker, but we just used the Demo button a lot :) and simple navigation - Forward, Back, Left and Right. It kept my husband's interest for 2 days. You can watch the video on HandBookLive.com to see what the Robot does, and whether you would want to buy it or not. Hope this helps.

What a great toy
You won't be able to clean your floors, and you won't be able to have it serve you drinks, but the Roboquad will provide you with hours of fun. But not for long periods of time, and not spontaneously. Unfortunately, this guy has an on/off switch, and he doesn't go into any sort of rest power saving mode. And although you are able to program him, your instructions are lost when you turn him off. BUT, he is still fun to play with, and he is especially entertaining to the cats and dog. They just aren't sure what to make of the noisy creature that slowly "chases" him around the room. If you have some play money, and just want something fun to goof around with occasionally, then this is the toy. Have fun

roboquad
Seems to have arrived in good condition. I find the manual a little confusing. I'll have to spend some more time with it before I can give it a more detailed rating.
