- This TV rocks!
- I have no idea why these people are complaining! I also got my TV during the Vets day sale at Sears for HA HA...$460! That's right, the TV has been a blessing and a half, great picture, really is HD quality, maybe not 1080p on a blue ray quality, but I hooked the blue ray up to it, and the color is unreal, and the picture has got to be pretty close to 1080P. The sound is not that great, but that is what an audio system is for. I think this is a great tv, if you have the luck of getting your hands on one, buy it, it was a steal!

- Not worth it!
- I purchased this TV (not from Amazon) and had nothing but problems. Please steer clear. The TV progressively took longer to turn on (until it literally took 1 hour to turn on). Magnavox customer support and the contractors they have fix it are awful. I had it taken away 2 times (for a month each time) only to have it come back with more problems. I had ghosting and white light leaking (and I'm not even that fussy) from all corners. They replaced the power supply and removed capacitors??? to no avail. STAY AWAY! Maganvox Customer support hung up on me when I called back. I finally was able to return it and purchased a Toshiba HL167; however, with my luck it arrived all cracked. I returned that, and just purchased a Samsung from Amazon...hopefully that will be better. I'm hoping the Amazon white glove delivery service is worth it's weight in gold...I did receive an e-mail saying that it's shipping is delayed. Crossing my fingers that my string of bad luck doesn't continue. PLEASE DON'T BUY MAGNAVOX FOR ANY PRICE!!! It's not worth it!

- Good bang for your buck
- I am an intermediate home theater guy who decided about 6 months ago that I was finally ready to take the plunge into HD. I had already decided long before that I wanted an LCD over a plasma set, for reasons that may or not be accurate. I was concerned about the burn-in stories I had heard and also noticed that plasma screens seemed to have highly-reflective screens, and seeing as how I was to put the TV in a room with several windows that was not preferable. Plasma screens have been available to consumers as large-screen TVs longer, but the LCD screen size and technology was catching up so I felt comfortable buying one.
I had figured on getting a Sony or Samsung LCD, but once I saw this baby at roughly half the price of the other brands I went ahead and bought it, without having read any reviews about it. I'd had okay luck with previous Magnavox products.
So after six months I'm pretty happy with the purchase. The only negative I've encountered out of the box was a stuck pixel which basically looks like one miniature green dot on the screen which is only noticeable if the screen is black. From what I have been able to find this is unfortunately relatively common and can happen during shipping, and many manufacturers will not allow exchanges or returns on this unless there are 5 or more of these stuck pixels. Supposedly they frequently disappear on their own, and to be frank it is impossible to see unless you are standing two feet from the TV with the screen being very black. It did not bother me enough to return it but be aware that this can happen from time to time with LCD.
I've got an upscaling DVD player which makes movies look pretty good on it, not HD quality, but better than you might expect. To be honest, the picture is good enough on it that I am going to wait until prices on Blu-Ray players drop. That might not be the case with a 50" set, which is big enough to show imperfections in standard-def but on the 42" the picture is fine.
Like most new sets, some picture adjustments are necessary out of the box, as usually they are set way to bright so they'll look good in a retailer's showroom. Now I didn't spend too much time fiddling with contrast and color settings, just enough so that I thought the picture looks good to me, which is the most important thing.
It has several inputs including two HDMI, VGA, two Component and two S-Video inputs which comes in handy when plugging in a Playstation, Cable box, DVD player, etc. As to be expected, the speakers are small and weak and show little stereo separation, but this is not a big deal is you have a surround sound set up in place already, and in fact the TV speakers are detachable which is nice if you don't need them and can remove them.
Overall, for the price I think this is a solid buy and is perfect for mid-sized living rooms or as a first HD that won't break the bank until the TVs get better and cheaper and bigger in a few years. - 2008-03-13, 5 of 5 people found this review helpful, Rated:

- I bought this t.v from sears for $650 special veteran day sale! this set is absolutely amazing!The set, looks much better than my samsung slimfit whch is a 1080i resolution crt.Note, you will have to calibrated, because the setting out of the box are way to bright.

- Amazing TV but mine was faulty
- I love this TV but mine broke after just 4 days. It's just a faulty set so I'm taking it back for an exchange. From the first day the tv after about an hour or 2 would go bzbzbztbztbbtzzzz and turn off. Now I can't even get the thing to turn on and I can't play my Halo 3 on it in glorious 1080i :( I'm taking it back tommorrow and I'll give a heads up on how it is when it's not a piece of crap. Amazing picture and sound BUT I GOT A BAD BATCH...
