When I was little, my grandmother and I often took bus trips through Louisiana and Mississippi. At that time, there were no freeways, just two lane highways. I was greatly impressed by the swamps and the long fingers of moss hanging from the trees, jutting up out of the water. My grandmother’s sister lived near a swamp and we went to visit her one summer for a couple of weeks. It all looked so eerie and mysterious. I was fascinated. This story was born from that experience.
