- works well even with Vista 64
- like the product....wish it was a little more editable but it is effective and it works well with other programs unlike some of the other major players and works well on a Vista 64 based system.

- Faster and Use Less Memory?
- Recent advertisements from Symmentec states that Norton Internet Security 2008 runs faster and uses less memory than 9 different competitors. But please check out the actual test study by PassMark software: Boot time for NIS 2008 is at 87% that of Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 (100%), and scan time is at 91% that of Panda Internet Security 2008 (100%). Also, the study DOES NOT measure CPU and memory usage during local file scanning, which explains why so many people complain about the speed of this software. All this data points against Symmentec's recent advertisement claims in terms of practicality.
A software can claim it runs the fastest and uses the least memory...when the computer is off. What do you think of that?
I have the same problem as other people who install and use this product. SLOW!!! My computer is a 3.0 GHz with 3 GB of memory and 200GB of hard drive space, running Windows XP Professional. After spending nearly 10 minutes installing NIS 2008 and rebooted my PC, I saw a tremendously difference on my PC performance...that is, TREMENDOUSLY SLOWER. It took nearly twice as long to boot up my computer now.
I do a lot of Word and Excel editing for work. When I was typing and Norton's antivirus scanning started, sometimes I had a hard time moving my mouse cursor. This alone can tell you how much memory the scanning program uses. - 2008-03-15, 9 of 9 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Unable to install on Windows XP Professional
- Installing NIS 2008 to replace NIS 2006 already installed. Tried installing 3 times and the install failed each time. Tried their suggestions and that did not resolve the problem. Went back to 2006.

- I was so upset with NIS 2007 I did not think I would buy it again. Calls to Symantec were of no help. NIS 07 constantly failed me in two critical ways. AUTO PROTECT would turn off and not turn back on even having run live update or manually turning it on. Auto protect required me to restart my PC's(2 with XP) & Laptop (with XP) over and over again until Auto protect would function. The other problem was live update would work (update) intermittently! The NIS 2008 is functioning flawlessly so far on 2 PC's (with XP) & 2 Laptops (One has XP the other Vista (disappointing operating system). I have had it installed for about 20 days and have to trust it is doing it's job.

- Buy only if your computer was purchased the same year as the Norton version
- I agree with the other reviews that this version is a resource hog. I have a Toshiba Satellite purchased in 2003 and I had no problems with Norton 2003 even though others complained that IT was a resource hog. I suspect what is going on here, much with Operating Systems and programs in general is that computers have gotten so much faster, programmers no longer bother to write "tight" code. Having said that, I see no real downside in actual use, the computer runs everything pretty much as fast as it did. It just takes about five minutes to boot up instead of one.
It appears to be a very robust program and runs more "behind the scenes" than 2003 with less pop ups requiring a response. It also has some features such as a password vault that may be of interest to some, though personally, I just wanted a firewall and was too lazy too uninstall the prior Norton and switch to another product. Overall an adequate product, but don't try to put it on your older computer.
