- Excellent TV not surprisingly
- This TV is everything I expected it to be. I spent a few months researching TVs and decided I wanted this one or the Sony Bravia XBR4. After this one went on sale for the crazy low price I bought it at ($2650), it was a no brainer to go with this one.
A few things to note:
- The speakers on this TV are surprisingly good
- The 120 Hz is kinda weird. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't, thankfully you can turn it off at will. Doesn't work when game mode is on, obviously, but you can still play games with game mode off and 120 Hz on, so long as your not playing a rhythm game thats dependent on perfect timing.
- The glossy finish I think makes for a clearer image, and far outweighs the problem with glare. If you've got an image on screen that is not very dark, you shouldn't see any glare anyway. If you're watching a dark movie, then you should be watching it in a dark room where glare isn't a problem anyway. Get some curtains if you have problem windows.
One final note, not specific to this tv, but 52" TVs are BIG. But after weeks of using this TV I've gotten used to its size and it no longer looks big. Instead, all other TVs I see look _small_. Ah well. - 2008-02-25, 1 of 1 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- 3 Month Review
- I purchased the 5271F back in November and here's my experience FWIW.
1) Online purchase went well. I was told it would take about 8 days to ship, and it showed up about 6 days after purchase. The guy that delivered it from Eagle brought it into the house and left about as fast as he could.
2) Unboxing and setting it up was very easy. I used a Hdef antenna at first. I was upgrading my Directv to hi-def, but when they showed up, they wanted to put a large dish on the front of the house. So, I called Comcast who setup hi-def cable . The picture performance with Comcast and the antenna were great.
3) After about two weeks I noticed a couple of black lines on the screen which grew from a few inches to a complete vertical line in a few days. It was noticeable even when the set was off. I checked online and read comments here. I chose to have Samsung come out and replace the panel. The panels were on backorder so it took about a week for them to show up. The tech was really good and explained everything. IMHO I think it was probably the better route changing the panel rather than sending back for an exchange. The set has been performing very well since the replacement. I give Samsung an A for service; I created an online ticket on their site and then called. They followed up with calls a number of times to give me status.
4) With a set this nice, I unfortunately :-) had to invest in some peripherals. So I bought from Amazon a new Onkyo HDMI receiver, Klipsch speakers, plus some cables, and iPod stuff. I like the setup and watching a DVD or HD movie/sports is pretty impressive.
5) I would buy one again even with the repair experience, and I hope I can say as much a year from now. - 2008-02-23, 1 of 1 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Incredible product.
- This is my first flat screen television and i must say that I am very pleased. I was patient enough to do my research before I purchased a television and it paid off. Anyone looking to buy a lcd tv should be patient and research. Don't rush and get a flat screen of poor quality just to be dissapointed and find yourself spending more money on something better. One flat screen is not equal to another. Anything over 42 inches should be no less than 1080p. If it's 120 hertz that's even better and make sure the contrast ratio is no less than 7000.1. The Samsung 71 series offers you 25000.1 contrast for crisp clear picture quality. The dynamic contrast is incredible as well as everything else. I can barely raise the volume to half because its so loud and clear. picture quality is unbelievable and my gaming experience has been taken to a whole new level. If you can afford one, buy one or be patient and save like i did.

- Got it broken, replacement is now broken after two months!
- Bought it from Amazon and it came damaged. The TV would not turn on from the remote but only from touching the base. In this day and age, how is it possible to ship TVs in this state? Samsung, what kind of quality control do you have? This could not be a shipping damage, a circuit was simply bad not allowing the remote sensor to turn the TV on (it would turn off however and everything else worked as well).
Anyway, I got the TV replaced by Amazon after the technician confirmed the defect - kudos to Amazon for amazing service- and now a bit over two months a blue line started developing on the LCD screen. It is now circa 7 inches long but growing. A technician will arrive in a few days, but I am sure the LCD is damaged (you can actually see the line by looking oblique at the TV with it turned Off).
Will see what comes out of this, but to have a TV replaced once and then repaired in only two months is something almost unbelievable nowadays.
Can not possible recommend this TV. The image is decent, but Samsung you've used up your karma points with me. Something this expensive should not come broken and should also not break in only two months. - 2008-02-19, 3 of 3 people found this review helpful, Rated:
