problems in changing paper size, lousy tech support
The 970 does what it does just fine, but although it seems as if it can accomodate printing to varied paper sizes, getting it to print correctly to the custom size is spotty. I have wasted quite a bit of paper and ink when the preferences screen showed printing as wanted, but prints came out wrong.
I spoke to 2 tech reps and neither was familiar with Adobe Photoshop and one recommended I use the simplistic Canon software instead. He also suggested using metric measurements rather than inches for paper size. They were eager to suggest it was an Adobe problem. Since I've had no trouble with the interface with Photoshop and my other Canon printer, I would guess that it is a problem with the 970. I've had the printer too long to return it, but if I could, I would!

MP 970 So far great printer
I've had the printer about 2 months now and so far I like it very much. I haven't figured out how to scan directly from the printer yet, I have to do it from my computer, but its just that I haven't had the time to spend experimenting. Pictures are great but you need to use good photo paper like Canon or Kodak. Printing is high quality also. My former printer was a Lexmark 5200, and I have to say it did great at printing scanning and photos. My only problem was with the two tank ink, the photo's were not water resistent. But the MP970 makes excellent water proof photo's and I have used very little ink the cartridge indicators all still show full. It is not as big as many people have said. The dual paper feed really is a nice touch. I don't need a Fax which is the only downside , but if you don't need it why pay for something you won't use.Another great thing is my wife bought this for my birthday and 1 week later Amazon had it at a lower price, $30.00 lower and they credited her Charge card immediately upon request.

Canon Printer
So far the printer has worked very well. Quality of copies and photos are far better than our old printer.

Great Machine!
This is a great printer and photo maker. I have only had it for 3 months so do not yet know how quickly the ink tanks empty bustdd I have make a lot of 8 X 10 color photos and the tanks are still close to full.
It does everything I have expected of it. It is a bit bulky so make sure you have adequate space for it.

Great Printer
I purchased a Canon Pixma MP970 recently. This is a great all-in one.
The photo quality is top-notch. Works well as a copier and scanner also.
Many things to learn about editing eventually, but you get great results by using the basic functions for all three modes. It looks like the ink will last a long time. You only have to replace the individual color that is low. The display screen and built in menus are great. I am very pleased with this printer.
