Expand-It Edger
This edger works okay, but it doesn't really have the power to get started into a new groove very well. After it gets going it produces a nice finish line on the lawn edge.

Nice add on
This attachment takes a little bit of practice to get the hang of it. But coupled with the Ryobi trimmer it really gets the job done. Very satisfied.

Didn't Work with Troy-Bilt String Trimmer
This Homelite Expand-It Edger Attachment was not compatible with my Troy-Bilt 4-cycle string trimmer, in spite of being advertised as a "universal" attachment. The flexible drive shaft was too short to mate securely with the drive nut in the Troy-Bilt unit, resulting in the cutting blade's stopping under any sort of load. After conferring with Homelite's customer service department, I returned the attachment to Amazon.
I cannot speak for how well the attachment might work with other brands of string trimmers.

Number Two, Right Behind My Lawn Mower
This attachment is the second most useful tool in grooming my yard. And so well priced when reconditioned!
Like some reviews said, I agree that the first trip is painful. But when used regularly, this tool makes the edge look great! I've even taken it to other places in the yard such as flower beds to re-establish the border, and later to "dig-in" for 3" composite edging.
There is an adjustment setting that allows you to move the blade deeper from the guide bar, but it really doesn't doo much. For me, it's either all the way up or all the way down. That is, 1.5" or just even. The guide bar requires you to place it on the left of the edge, so the blade cuts to the right. The only place the is an issue for me is on one side of the driveway where it comes right to the house. With that in mind, it's pretty simple to figure out a "one-way" path for your yard.
This reconditioned item came with a hanging cap that covers the open end when not on the weedeater/trimmer. This specific one has a loop on it that also allows you to hang it, and a hole for the detent and ball to fit in properly. I can't find them anywhere else and the other attachments I've purchased simply come with rubberized caps that are easy to lose. If you get one of those caps, hold on to it! It's gold!
For as little as this cost, it has done an amazing amount of making my yard look good! And now it's so easy.

Works as advertised
The edger works great! It is a real improvement over using a string trimmer as an edger.
