the old days
i was THE BIGGEST fan of new kids on the block. I had all of their albums, starting with this one, toys and clothes--and I'm a guy!!!! my sister got me into their music. now the music and lyrics may seem sugary now, but they were fun anyway. i was 22 years old when they were big and now I'm 39. I still have HANGING TOUGH in my record collection. "plese don't go girl' was and is my all time favorite song, s is I'll be loving you". Like one of the other reviewers here (capricornrising-I feel what youre saying!!!)
all in all, HANGING TOUGH is a fun album. love ballads and dance trax in one album. I just wish they could have stayed around just a little longer. who know wha they would have accompliched next

A great trip down memory lane
Let me start off by saying that the New Kids hit my freshman year of high school -- so I have very fond memories of them from the age of 14 to about 16/17.
I had this album on LP and tape during it's popularity and ran across it again while I was looking to spend a Christmas gift certificate -- hence the purchase. Like most late 80s/ealy 90s music, I have had a blast listening to this CD. Say what you will about the boy bands of that era -- but the music is fun and -- honestly, not that bad.

Still one of my all-time favorite albums
The Beatles and The 4 Seasons they're not, and while I admit that the whole "Boy Band" thing has become quite stale over the years, the New Kids were at least popular at a time when boy bands were still cool, and this completely listenable album is still a good argument for calling *NSYNC "*OUTOFSYNC."
They did everything from fun upbeat teen pop (The Right Stuff, Cover Girl, What'cha Gonna Do About It) to party stompers (the title song) to "miss you" ballads (Please Don't Go Girl, I Remember When).
Here's my personal breakdown of each song:
You Got It (The Right Stuff) - 5/5 - Great way to start off the album
Please Don't Go Girl - 5/5 - Absolutely beautiful. One of my top 2 favorites on the album. Still makes me think of all the girls I've loved before.
I'll Be Loving You Forever - 4/5 - Great song but I heard it way too many times before I ever got the album, so it's more played out for me than some of the others.
Cover Girl - 5/5 - Probably the best example of upbeat positivity on the album.
I Need You - 3/5 - Weakest song on album, but hardly puke-worthy.
Hangin' Tough - 5/5 - This'll be pumping at my next back in the day party.
I Remember When - 5/5 - My other favorite from the album. Not one of their hits, but I guess the fact that it wasn't overplayed is what makes it special.
What'cha Gonna Do About It - 5/5 - Catchy, well arranged, and a bit more hard-edged than some of the others.
My Favorite Girl - 3/5 - Sizable hit, but not as melodic or well-constructed as some of the others.
Hold On - 3/5 - Not a standout cut, but not that bad.
As I said before, they're not The Beatles or The 4 Seasons, but *NSYNC wasn't exactly NKOTB themselves.
P.S. I was never a huge Backstreet Boys fan, but they really weren't that bad. I'd pick them over *NSYNC anytime.

The Right stuff!
It's particularly sad to see how many manufactured boy bands there are out there nowadays when you consider that raw talent such as the New Kids was allowed to flourish not much more than a decade ago. The title track is great to listen to if you want to get psyched up before an important business meeting or date - just don't get overexcited as I once did and ask your ladyfriend if she is 'tough enough'. That minor quibble aside, this is one of the best albums ever made. Go get!

$ 2.50 is way to much for this album
This album is almost 20yrs old, and why its not marked down to a penny is a shame. Does anyone really want this album anymore? This was the band that started the decline of "Music" and they are to blame for giving us garbage such as Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, and all that other boy band crapola. Even if you are a teeny bopper, I cant see how anyone can like this. If I had children, mayne I would play this for anyone under five, since it belongs on a Disney Compalation. These posers suck, and so does all the other copycats that we had to deal with over the years.
