This Was The Stuff!
Being a 16-year old now, a liking 'NSYNC, Mariah and Missy Elliot it's pretty bizarre for me to pick this album up which I had thrown away years ago with my Hanson and Spice Girls junk. What was I thinking? I downloaded "Hangin' Tough", "The Right Stuff" and "Step By Step" the other day and whoosh! Took a trip down memory lane! I remember begging my cousin to buy "Step By Step" for me on tape (which she did) and I remember listening to the radio when they played "The Right Stuff" and I was only about three at the time (and it's still my fave along with "Step By Step" and "I'll Be Loving You Forever")!I'm in the marching band at my high school and we played "Hangin' Tough" in the stands which blew over me as WHOA! New Kids weren't all that bad, I mean they had hits (and catchy ones as well! 'You got the right stuff, baby') and they were pretty talented, they have a place in my heart (unlike Hanson which I don't even admit to liking today) nonetheless being a "boy band" and "manufactured"-which how do we know if they were? Anyhoo, this album and "Step By Step" have got to be my first childhood memories, I remember having sleepovers in my NKOTB sleeping bag, arguing who was the cutest memeber...well, it's a guilty pleasure so pick up some New Kids stuff, it's not that bad and you won't regret it!

Awesome Album, lol
I was only about 5 or 6 when New Kids on the Block were popular (around the very early 90's)...I downloaded some songs the other day to see what they sounded like (I love 80's pop), and I really liked them alot! I actually bought the album the next day! I love the CD, I listen to it every night, and my fav songs are "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" and "I Need You". The producer Maurice Starr really wrote great songs, if somewhat cheesy 80's pop. I even remember "Hangin' Tough" from when I was little! I prefer NKOTB to any boy group today. I'm 16 years old...hah

New Kids On The Block
New Kids On The Block were the coolest thin back from 1988-1990, they millions of record but more importantley they sold tons of merchandise. They went on Forbes Magazines top paid entertainers, 115 Million Dollars! This album which has "Please Don't Go Girl" hit 10, "You Got It(The Right Sttuff)" hit 3, "I'll Be Loving You Forever" was 1 for 1 week, "Hangin' Tough" was 1 for 1 week, and "Cover Girl" hit 2. This album which was released on September 6, 1988 spent most of it's time charted in 1989 and hit 1 for 2 weeks and spent 71 weeks in the top 40. This album would be their biggest album. Buy this album it's enjoyable to listen too.

EXCUSE MY NOSTOLGIA!...
I just listened to my long-lost tape of New Kids On The Block's
"Cover Girl" and oh man,did that bring back memories!!
That song transported me from now to the Summer of '89!
I know I might get laughed at,but I LOVE THAT SONG!!

And..."Hangin' Tough" is without a doubt,probably,the best
boy band album EVER(excluding maybe,New Edition or BBD).
New Kids On The Block were as processed and hated on as the
boy bands of today(they were basically a white washed New Edition) but in my opinion they are far better than Backstreet
Boys and N'Sync. They had great teenybop pop songs!

I still remember the dance steps from the "(You Got) The Right Stuff" video and I still know all the words to this album's title track too!

Oh,man,I know I may laughed big time folks but I mean the late
'80s and the early-to-mid '90s have so many memories and me being
a music fanatic, the music brings back the memories.Hope you understand!

Plus, you have to admit the teen stars of then are way more talented and groomed than the pesky teenyboppers of today!

hehe, Wow, I used to really love this
I'd have to give this 3 starts just cuz it IS teeny bopper music, no matter how much I loved it back then. Thing is you can still look back on this & know that even though it is teeny bopper music, at least these guys WERE teeny boppers, unlike all these other boy band clones at the present time!! Not to mention they have much better voices too, and better lyrics by their producer Maurice Starr. If I had kids in the preteen age, I'd much rather them listen to this than the abundance of bad pop out right now. In Robin's previous review, I couldn't have said it any better myself.
This is what teen pop should be about: FUN INNOCENCE!!

Now for the songs I remember best:
"You Got It (The Right Stuff)" - good for reminiscing about that "first time" for everyone....whichever it is, it's up to your imagination. I liked the remix too, wherever you can find it... "you-yu-yu-yu-yu-yu got it"
"Please Don't Go Girl" - ahhh, Joey's pure teen vocals just made all the girls swoon.
"I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" - ya, so the lyrics could be kinda cheesy, but the mellowness made up for it. Now that I think about it, after seeing this on VH1's pop-up video within the past year, did my eyes deceive me, or was Jordan wearing a Bauhaus shirt in this video??
"Cover Girl" - I remember this was one of my faves. I was also liking the variety of the boys switching lead vocals every song.
"Hangin' Tough" - the added rock twist made it seem all the more "rebeling"...and foreshadowed what I'd be listening to mostly in my later teens.
"I Remember When" - ahhh, little Joey again

I remember back when my friends had this tape in junior high, & I had to have it too just to see what the fuss was about. I then went on to get their first album, as well as the Christmas album. I had pinups all over my wall, and pins to put on me, but didn't go so far as to get dolls or see them live several times with front row seats...I wouldn't let my kids either ;) I had to stop on "Step by Step" cuz A) I had heard it & didn't really wanna spend my $$ on it, & B) I realized, as it had come out right when I started high school, I really was outgrowing them. But, they served their purpose at the time, & that's all that matters.

I'd get this to introduce to pre-teens & teens liking what's out now just so they'll have some knowledge of history, which is what I think is seriously lacking with listeners (well, not in just music either). My mom had done the same thing by having me hear her old Jackson 5 album, so that I understood where teen pop had come from. They might even like this better than what's out now, who knows!! Overall, it's MUCH more enjoyable pop than anything else out right now.
