- Delicious, Dorm Friendly Coffee
- This coffee press is perfect for people who love high quality coffee and enjoy the satisfaction of really brewing the coffee they drink. For a college student living in dorms this press is perfect for fueling my caffeine addiction. Currently I have the smallest pot which makes just enough for one or two (depending on whether or not you add milk) cups of strong, richly textured coffee. All of the parts are easy to disassemble and clean, and while the brew takes a little effort to make, the results are superb.
Dormitories generally do not allow coffee makers as they pose a fire hazard, but French Press pots are totally fine as you only need a microwave to heat the water. Getting coarse ground beans might cost a little bit more, but you can usually grind your own beans in a grocery store or brewing company for a competitive price.
If you're debating on whether or not to buy a French Press or a drip pot, don't even hesitate: the Bodum press wins hands down. I've taken my pot up to a friend's room on several occasions and she cannot believe the difference in quality; you won't either. - 2008-05-21, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Love these coffee makers
- I had a small one like this which after MUCH use broke. I live alone and did not know if I needed a larger one, but got it anyhow. Actually, the flavor is better in my opinion with more brewing size and I now have 1-1/2 cups of my favorite brew per day instead of one!
I'll never go back to any other type of coffee maker. - 2008-05-19, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Must Have
- This makes coffee better and faster than any traditional coffee maker. It is amazingly simple to use. Unlike a traditional coffee maker, you can clean every component so you know it's really clean. It takes up almost no space and uses zero electricity.

- I really like a freshly ground, strong cup of coffee, and this French Press unit does it perfectly!

- Definitely different...
- It would be rather redundant, but for first time buyers, I'll throw out what I think of this particular press and coffee made by this press.
It's definitely a different way to make coffee. Instead of a drip machine where water is filtered through coffee grounds, a coffee press mixes water with the grinds, then filters the mixture.
Does it live up to the hype?
I can't say for sure why this press is "only for coffee lovers." I love my coffee, but there are some drawbacks to using this coffee press... which might be applicable to any other presses. The most annoying by far is that it doesn't filter everything when you press the coffee-water mixture. It could be the fault that I'm using a Mr. Coffee grinder, or it could just be that the strainer isn't perfect. Regardless, I never finish what's at the bottom of my cup anymore, as it always remains a (fine) grainy sludge.
If you can look pass that, this makes for a very nice coffee press. It's well-made, simple, and very easy to use. It's easy to wash too (by hand)... just dump the grinds and wash the strainer and container with soap and water. The coffee it makes is by far, for lack of better words, richer than what a drip machine can provide. It's great for singles who like to have a thermos of rich coffee on-the-go. Once you do some experimentation to taste and figure out your own routine, making coffee in this way can be rewarding and even faster, if not on par, than a drip machine.
Note: Keep in mind that a cup of coffee is literally a measured cup... not equal to the gigantic mugs that we all know and love to use. - 2008-05-04, 2 of 3 people found this review helpful, Rated:
