Excellent upgrade for me
The last time I used CorelDRAW was back when it was just Draw, years ago. It's come a long way. I'm not a professional user, but CorelDRAW is easy enough for me to use.
There are so many new features I don't know where to begin. I really like the Adobe support as we use a number of Adobe products in our office. I also like the specialized font.

Wow, this package is loaded! Thick manuals, charts, and a T-shirt!
Wow, this package is loaded! Thick manuals, charts, and a T-shirt arrived in a strong box with protective packaging. My first thought was "Very Professional packaging."
As I removed the strong inner box from the shipping box, something fell out. I looked down, and saw a new t-shirt lying on the floor of my car! CorelDRAW comes in a very professional package, and the box contains not only the software but also thick, User Friendly Manuals, charts, and printed representations of countless graphics which can be used within the program.
In other words; you do not have to remember everything. Manuals, charts, and printed graphics allow you to casually and quickly reference all that you need. Therefore all of the information and the designs are at your fingertips.
This package reminded me of office packages that web designers used to make life easier. I will fully review the product after I test it more thoroughly, but I am very impressed.

A Useful Set of Tools
I'm still trying to get the hang of all the nuances of this program, but I find the CorelDRAW program to be quite useful for making funky art. I had been using Corel Painter Classic (a freebie program that came with my Intuos several years ago) and Microsoft Expression for working on "paintings," drawings, other types of original digital art, and this is quite good. I was never able to make proper curves using Expression but with CorelDRAW it's quite easy.
Still, it's pretty darned expensive for someone who merely dabbles in digital art; if I were going to spend this kind of money, I'd opt for Painter X, the latest full release which incorporates all the Painter Classic features I like, plus more.
I rarely want to manipulate or touch up photos (all I usually do is crop them), so I haven't explored the PhotoPaint portion.

A superb graphics program
I have been impressed by Corel's programs, of late. My recent experience with their Painter Essentials 4, a home art studio that offers a full suite of artistic media in a well designed program, replete with every digital art technology you can imagine, has been a lot of fun. What distinguishes that program are the extensive tutorials and videos and an informative companion guidebook. Although there are an enormous number of techniques to learn, help is never far away. The CorelDraw Graphics Suite X4 is a much vaster program, with a manifold of graphics applications. If it involves illustration, layouts, design, photo-editing, tracing or a panoply of digital images, fonts, clipart or royalty free photos, it is probably somewhere in here! There simply hasn't been enough time to sample everything available in this full-featured suite, but whatever I have tried has been comparatively easy to learn. Once again there is extensive help available: with comprehensive learning videos, tutorials and interactive hints as assistance in getting started using the suite's many powerful tools. One notable aspect of this program is the ability to preserve the quality of your photos with RAW format support for hundreds of cameras. If you own any of the commonly used digital cameras, RAW support is probably available. The photo retouching and enhancement image-editing tools are effective, although you will have to consult those video tutorials if you intend to get the most out of the program. This is a superb Graphics Suite. It will take awhile to master it, but given the enormous number of features and their effectiveness, it will definitely be worth it.

Definitely a learning curve
If you are faint of heart when it comes to massive computer programs, then run away now. CorelDraw Graphics Suite x4 is a fantastic program, but as I say in the tile if you have never used a program like this be prepared for some trial and error. However, there are over two hours of tutorials on the DVD. Watch them, and then watch them again. They do help and there is tremendous benefit there.
I would go into the specs of this, and the different programs included in this suite. But I fear I would totally screw it up. So, instead I'll talk about my experience with it.
First off I am a very novice user when it comes to programs of this sort. However, after some trial and error and watching the tutorials. I have gained some type of profecieny with the program. Not nearly what an expert can do mind you, but the more I tinker with it the more I think I will find some things out.
The interface, while daunting, makes sense and is laid out in a very understandable way. But, the first time you see all those options and choices you will be in awe.
This is a solid program and certainly lives up to the Corel name.
