Wilber Shoe is a lonely man. Kindergarten through College, he has never been able to build any kind of relationship will another human being. He has zero friends, although he's a nice and good person. There is not one person in the world that Wilber could go to for help, or write a letter to, or share a mean. Wilber's problem is that he has no communications skill with strangers. He can't make small talk. One evening at the Rusty Nail Bar and Grill, Wilber is approached by a stranger who asks a strange question: “How do you want her killed?” This is the point that dramatic changes take place in Wilber's life.
