- Ten Years NOT Worth the Wait for THIS CD
- Maybe it's just me feeling my age, but I was sadly disappointed with Shirley Bassey's new release, "Get The Party Started".
Usually I'm so moved by her voice,I'd pay to hear her sing anything or so I thought.
While her voice still seems as incredibly strong as ever, it's the material she's singing and the arrangements that make you feel that there's just something missing. I SO wanted and expected to love this CD. Instead, sadly,I feel it's a waste of this brilliant performers talent. - 2008-04-11, 0 of 2 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- She's no. 3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play
- As I write this, Dame Shirley is at no. 3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play and deserves to reach the top coveted spot with the amazing title track. The whole CD is a revelation.
The Living Tree sounds awesome on my hi-fi system like a great Bond song.
This CD has played non-stop in my car for weeks now! - 2008-03-28, 4 of 4 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Dame Shirley Bassey: GET THE PARTY STARTED
- Heard Dame Shirley Bassey interviewed on NPR one Saturday afternoon. Had heard of her, yes, but had never heard her sing. This CD is fabulous. Bassey's voice range is not to be believed.
This is a real "upper." - 2008-03-23, 4 of 4 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- "First new album in a decade"?
- I love Shirley, I truly do... Love the 2 new songs -- the title song and "The Living Tree" are wonderful. I'd give these new songs 4-1/2 stars. However, I am disappointed that she couldn't find 10 more new songs to record. After all, her last full-length studio album was released in 1996! The remixes are fine, but are not a substitute for brand-new recordings. Come on Shirley, get your Dameship into the studio and record a whole new album!

- The Party has Started!!
- Dame Shirley was tempted back into the recording studio by the bond-esque "The Living Tree" and now we have this (almost) great album. The title says it all and the party has started for all of Dame Shirley's fans, new and old. The remixed tracks are based around vocals recorded in the 80's and 90's so sound superb. Dame Shirley really puts her own stamp on tracks like "I Will Survive" which is as far removed from the Gloria Gaynor version as you could imagine. Remixes of "I Who Have Nothing" and "Big Spender" take them into the 21st century. Cagedbaby's remix of "This Is My Life" is as cool as ice!. A couple of the remixed tracks don't quite work but who could forget Shirley's version of "Get The Party Started"? It's going to be a great party! Don't miss out!
