Our son had his best dental checkup EVER after using this!
Every time we took our son to the dentist, he'd get a lecture about what he needed to do (brush longer, go over the gum line better, etc). He'd shift from foot to foot and look guilty and we'd hand over our hard earned bucks and not feel happy, either.
We already knew he was flossing regularly, brushing as many times a day as recommended - and so forth.
Then we got the Philips Sonicare. I have to admit I was skeptical, tending to believe that using a regular toothbrush and some diligence would be enough. Fact is, the Sonicare really filled in some gaps - and caught some gaps - in our son's toothbrushing skills.
Even he was amazed when he first started using it. The brush is powerful but happily it has several cleaning "modes" so that the user can adjust it to fit tooth sensitivity. There is also a timer.
Please note: This particular model does not have the UV Sanitizer so I can't compare it to one that does. We bought extra brush heads locally so the whole family could use this. We all felt the same, that it produced superior results to our own efforts to keep our teeth sparkling clean and it did not cause fillings to come out or damage our enamel.
Here was the result of the dental exam for one person in our family (we are still waiting for dental visits to get results on the others):
Last time (before the Sonicare): one cavity and one spot that was likely to turn into one, due to excessive plaque in that area.
After the Sonicare - NO cavities and no plaque build-up. We do have a mouthwash that helps with plaque but he was using that BEFORE the dental check-up so the only major difference was the Sonicare.
I think the results are a significant improvement, especially for our budget and "dental expenses", down to the minimum we can cut it - for now. Although we won't know about the other two members of our family until we have a dental visit, we do feel that our teeth are cleaner, there is less plaque and the "smell test" (cup your hands over your mouth, breathe into them and smell the results) indicates that bad breath is a thing of the past.
Product information for this indicate that it is "clinically proven to remove more plaque" and we can tell that it does indeed do so, even better than those plaque reducing or removing mouthwashes - along with brushing.
For those who are particular about how a toothbrush feels in the hands, this one is easy to grasp and user friendly.

Different cleaning speeds + long battery life = great rechargeable toothbrush
I owned an electronic toothbrush before this, and loved it, except for two complaints:
1. The bristle action was harsh enough that brushing gums was difficult;
and
2. The battery was short-lived enough that I would have to bring along the charging base for a week-end trip.
This toothbrush remedies both those problems. It has variable speeds that can be used, so that you can clean your teeth on a high setting, and get gums and tongue on a more gentle setting. And more importantly, I charged this baby completely, and then have not set it back on the rechargeable base. Using the full allotted 2 minutes to brush my teeth, and a few extra on the side, so far I have gotten 5 brushes out of the battery--and it's not dead yet!
You'll probably need to bring along the base if you're planning a trip longer than Friday-Saturday-Sunday, but your packing just got that much less complicated!
EDIT: It has now been 10 days since I wrote this review. I use this brush both morning and night, and have not recharged it once. The battery should last for a full week trip. I wish I could give it an extra star for that alone!

Powerful
It has taken me a few days to get used to the power of this product. The intensity of the vibration was difficult to adjust to at first. However, I am now on my third day of using the this product and I find it quite invigorating. The long term effects will be judged by next trip to the dentist but I cannot help but feel this Sonic toothbrush has to be doing a better job than regular brushing.

Really makes a difference
I've used an electric toothbrush for years. A Rotodent that I got from my dentist. The Sonicare is much better - and is also the toothbrush that my dentist now carries and recommends.
The features are great. They make compact and standard brush heads and there are three different cleaning modes: Clean, Sensitive (that's the one I use most) and Massage. There's also a timer to make sure you're brushing long enough - which is a great idea for kids!
The charge on the battery lasts for weeks and it even comes with a travel case. There are colored band so family members can have their own brushes.
I have found this brush to be much more effective then the Rotodent. They both have been good for my gums but the Rotodent did not clean my teeth very well so I always needed to use a regular toothbrush in addition. The Sonicare REALLY cleans your teeth. They will be whiter, cleaner and your dentist will approve - a winner all around!

Takes care of your teeth
Well, I have to say this is a very interesting toothbrush. One of the things that I like about it is the recharger. It doesn't even look like a recharger. It made me wonder if I was missing something, until I put the toothbrush on it and the gauge lights come on. I was expecting some sort of thing that locks into the toothbrush to charge it, but it's just a small little piece that loosely goes into the toothbrush and also keeps the toothbrush standing. This makes it easy when you're ready to brush your teeth. All you got to do is grab it with ease without unplugging anything.
I like all the settings that's on this toothbrush, but I still have to get use to the vibration and sound that comes from it. I like the Go Care feature, because it has a one minute timer. This is good for me, because I probably don't brush my teeth long enough when I'm trying to hurry up and get ready for work.
Well, I will definitely be using this style of toothbrush for years to come, because it just doesn't brush your teeth it helps take care of your teeth.
