Music of the Spheres
![]() | Average Customer Rating: Recommend Mike Oldfield has always been famed for his unconventional approach to music. Throughout his career he has consistently broken musical boundaries, and with Music of the Spheres he continues to do so. Taking influences from Holst and Rachmaninov as much as Steve Reich or William Orbit, this piece is classical in nature, but yet is also immediately identifiable as classic Mike Oldfield. - Still waiting for "Mike Oldfield"
- Very disappointing. To be fair, the album isn't bad when rated in the classical music department! This is not the music of Mike Oldfield I can fall in love with as I did with Mike's early, and even some later work. Classical, orchestral, and don't get me started on the violins... but where's Mike's sampled electric guitar? Sorry Mike, this one is going to the bottom of my CD collection. I'm still looking for album with magnitude of Tubular Bells, Amarok, Ommadawn, Platinum, QE2, and many more released before year 2000.

- tube #4
- I'm 54 years old and was there when Tubular Bells hit the record rack. It was truly awesome for it's time and was an incredible psychedelic experience...believe me. Ommadawn and Incantations were were worn out around the tribal campfire here in Oregon I assure you. As I've aged I've come to think of "Fives Miles Out" and "Songs of the Distant Earth" his best works since. I've sampled his stuff since and gave this CD a try because of the reviews here. I really wish Mike could put Tubular Bells to bed for the last time...and get on with something truly new. Sorry I just cannot recommend this work unless you want to listen to the ghostly and reworked echos of past.
No pulse of the universe Mike...just reworked Bells #4? - 2008-04-06, 4 of 6 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Master's piece, again!
- This is just amazing work of sounds and amazing sounds of work! If anything is missing at all, that would only be 5.1 sound for as much enjoying the Music of the Spheres as the current technology allows. And all I can ever wish regarding this masterpiece is a concert some day somewhere and me sitting in a good place among you nice people and living this music through my heart and cells...

- Simply stunning
- Music of the Spheres is the most stunning piece of music I have heard in a very long time. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. The world has a new classical genius. From the opening note to the closing, this is music which will stir you and leave you in awe.

- I would call tubullar bells 4 ENHANCED
- I own all Mike Oldfield's titles and i rank this as 2nd or 3rd, above just are, perhaps, ommadawn or incantations. Also, i would call it tubular bells 4 ENHANCED. Hayley Westenra: Bueatiful girl and great voice. Lang Lang: what can i say about this pianist? He's a virtuos of piano. The orchestra sounds just like Wiener Philharmoniker or Berliner Philharmoniker, but credit of conductor is missed. No matter this fact, it's a great, great album!!! So, actually i rank it as 1st M. Olfield's album.
