- Disappointed
- I purchased this Samsung item as a replacement for a Toshiba DVD player, which finally bit the dust after nearly 10 years of reliable service. I purchased the player from Sam's Club with the idea in mind that I would have upscaling capability when I'm able to afford a true HD LCD set. I am returning it due to very poor interface between the remote and the player; it just does not seem to receive commands properly. Multiple presses of function buttons get either no response or very delayed response. I give the Samsung 2 stars because the picture is of very high quality on my 36" Toshiba CRT; I cannot comment on any upscaling features due to the fact that the TV is not equipped with HDMI or component inputs (it is not HD). Considering the 4 star average review this product received here on Amazon, I am disappointed to say the least.
I have decided to try my luck with a Sony DVP-NS700H, an upscaling DVD player with similar performance features to the Samsung. I have always had good fortune with Sony products, and this model has an S-Video output-something the Samsung lacks. - 2008-06-07, 4 of 18 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Loose HDMI connection
- When I first hooked this up w/a monster HDMI cable there was no signal. Finally figured out the connection was loose (got it to connect intermittently), and couldn't get it to connect any tighter. Samsung tech support says female connection cannot be at fault, must be the cable. Same cable works fine with my DVR. I have ordered new HDMI cable to see if it fits more snugly than the monster. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hooked it up with a generic hdmi cable, now it works great. lesson learned: don't pay up for monster, especially considering poor connectors. - 2008-06-06, 0 of 3 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- no improvement seen from the upconverting on this player
- This player did not make a big difference to me, it does play dvd's and if you just want a player then I guess this is fine... but as for the upconverting, I really didn't see it.

- Fantastic picture quality
- This DVD player was thrown in when I purchased my LCD TV from Amazon. The quality of my dvds has never looked better. This player makes them look fantastic upconverted to 1080p. So far I have not found a disc it will not play. Picture quality is fantastic and I got it for free.
Cons: Wish the display was a bit brighter - 2008-06-05, 0 of 0 people found this review helpful, Rated:
- Does not play DIVX correctly - beware!!
- Decent player, does everything it claims EXCEPT play DIVX files. It randomly skips ahead when playing. Read other reviews, others have claimed this problem too. I wouldn't buy this if you wanna play DIVX. And if you just want a DVD player that will upscale DVDS on a HDTV, then buy a Sony DVD player instead of this.
